Renewables: "talking 'bout my generation"

4.62 O's for yesterday. Not a lot of generation after 4 due to very dark skies.

JKenH said:It’s not great in winter. In December I only generate about half of what I would with a South facing system. I find PVGIS over estimates winter generation potential for E-W panels. I have never got anywhere near the PVGIS estimate for December (usually around 70-80%) whereas in May (2020) I have seen 118%.Having said that, I think having panels on 3 elevations is great. I dislike drawing from the grid and if I could have more panels I would. Payback might take a long time but you will have the satisfaction of generating at breakfast and tea time - at least for part of the year.
Thanks for that. It makes sense that the performance is not good in winter, but it's disappointing to find out that PVGIS is overestimating winter. Unfortunately I have the roof I have... it sounds like ideally I should add E & W as well as improving the density of my S production.ggmf said:@Chris_Type_R - A view of my S and E roof spaces if it helps,. Think this works out out 4:1
Todays generation was 4.6 & 1.551 O's
Thanks for posting that - it doesn't make the case for E&W more compellingI'm looking to use Hyundai shingle panels which supposedly have decent performance in lower / diffuse light conditions - these are quite pricey, but have the frame size that will fit.
Central Beds, 2.02kWp (9 x 225W) south facing with some morning shade, installed 2011 (£7.16/Wp). Tigo monitoring/optimisers on all panels, Growatt MIC 2000 TL-X Inverter and Solar iBoost installed 2022. (4 x 415W + 6 x 405W garden experiment connected to SunSynk 3.6 hybrid inverter & 2 x 5.3kWh SynSynk batteries) (4 x 405W panels queued to go somewhere)0 -

I have put up yield figures but stopped when I realised that there is nothing we can do to influence how many photons impinge on our panels. Everyone’s daily yield is unique to their physical installation and the weather conditions around it.8 x Jinko Tiger Neo 54c 415W, Huawei 3k L1 HV ph Hybrid inverter and 2 x 5kWh LUNA batteries on 15° roof facing SW on the southern edge of Bristol.1

And a very welcome 6.2 O's here to keep the EV charged following three visits to FIL today, there will no doubt be another couple tomorrow and the day after as things currently stand.
