Simple really, but you need to check the t&c of your FiT supplier - who you give your generation readings to - at the time of the application to that FiT supplier.

If you have a smart meter installed, and it is capable of measuring export, then most/probably all FiT suppliers would require you to be paid for your export element of the FiT based on your export readings - rather then the deemed, or estimated rate of 50%, of your generation.

If you have a diverter, or use as much of your generation as possible, then export metering, by either a smart meter or export meter, is not a good thing.

Did any of the FIT partner organisations ever include a condition that any future fitment of an export meter would cancel your original agreement to accept '50% deemed export' (which was in itself pretty unfair to the majority of people forced to accept it).

The OVO contract Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) Statement of Terms is carelessly drafted.

The second paragraph of condition 6, Metering reads:

If you want to be eligible for Export Payments, your installation must exporting to the Electricity Network. The export must be measured by an Export Meter, unless your installation has an installed capacity of 30kW or less. In this case, we use a Deemed Reading.

The first sentence is clear. The second sentence, disregarding the confusing comma, appears to suggest that the export need not be measured by an Export Meter if your installation has an installed capacity of 30 kw or less. It is not clear to which prior condition(s) the third paragraph relates. If it relates to the both the first and second sentences then a Deemed Reading would be used where the installation has an installed capacity of 30kW or less.

Now it is necessary to turn to the defined term "Deemed Reading":

... a way of working out how much electricity has been exported by the installation without an Export Meter ...

"Deemed Reading" appears to apply only to the installation without an export meter.

My opinion is that the terms do state in effect that if you do have an Export Meter then the actual Meter Reading would apply rather than the Deemed Reading.

I had not understood that myself on my first reading of the terms, and I would have refused the meter if I had known.

With the export meter, the case for diversion (using solar generated electricity in lieu of gas) becomes marginal.

In my case diversion appears to work out slightly cheaper than using gas.

Cost of FIT payment 4.85p per kWh.

Cost of gas 3.034 p per kWh.

Gas is approximately 45% for my boiler and installation.

    Real value of FIT payment 4.85 * .45 = 2.1825 p per kWh.

4.09 Os middling - pretty much like the day, and by the look of the forecast pretty much what we should expect for the next 10 days.

Is there a website that gives daily/monthly estimates based on location?

I wouldn't say it was clear at all ! But in particular, it doesn't appear to say "if you subsequently have an export meter fitted we will have to use its readings". The sentences quoted seem to concern themselves only with the situation at the start of the contract and I don't see why if you accepted deemed export then you should be forced to change later
