Another nice day yesterday, got 30.1kWh or 5.39 Os.
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

... I take it that you've seen their Smart Gateway T&C's then ... ( http://www.ovoenergy.com/smart-gateway/terms-and-conditions/ ) ... reads a little like - whatever happens it's never our fault, charges apply for returned non-faulty units, it's never yours and we can ask for it back for any reason & at any time and don't be surprised if repeated high frequency data access effectively creates a broadband DOS event !! ....

T&Cs are my professional expertise
The Smart Gateway is the little box that link to the router by ethernet and to the Smart meter by Wi Fi. The T&C are a lot of fuss over a little box that probably costs £5. Of course, it is potentially Ovo's differentiator from suppliers who supply the in house display device. At the moment nothing works except that the Smart Meters act as Dumb Meters.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -

... one question immediately springs to mind ... when we applied to register or FiT payments there was a question on whether or not we would require FiT export units to be paid on a deemed basis, so that must form part of the FiT contract which was entered into at the time ... now, considering that the FiT provider and the energy provider are not necessarily linked, what agreement was made (/referenced) on the energy contract meter change (smartmeter) T&Cs which overrides the existing, and separate, FiT contract ?? .... Not my area of professional expertise, but having been involved in loads of high value project contracts, that's where I'd have started ....
Regarding the 'Smart Gateway' not communicating with a server - is any part of the communication initiated remotely which could require local router firewall rule changes, or are there any port forwarding requirements, or are there any bridging rules between the wireless and wired connections in the router - what about DHCP/fixed addressing or the unit being in a DMZ ?? ... all considerations before assuming that the unit is faulty ...

It would appear that the Smart Electric Meter talks to the Smart Gas Meter, but that it is the electronics in the Smart Electric Meter that will not talk to the Ovo server. The technician thought that a signal strengths of 10 out of 25 was sufficient to connect to the remote server. He was unable to spend time waiting for the meter to communicate via 3G radio. He did talk about the possibility of returning in 6 weeks to fit an aerial and that involves breaking the seals.
The Electricity Smart Meter then connects by radio to the Smart Gateway. The Smart Gateway in turn connects by ethernet to the broadband router. Then the computer connects via a browser to MyOvo.
I rather suspect that the server to which the Smart Gateway connects would send out signal via 3G to the Smart Meter.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -

I'd find that quite surprising with the number of devices that manage to communicate fine without requiring the user to fiddle with ports and mess with dhcp or static addresses?
Just think Wattson, Owl plus others for measuring and every inverter out there that allows remote monitoring?
