Just think Wattson, Owl plus others for measuring and every inverter out there that allows remote monitoring?
I agree ... but not knowing how that particular router/firewall is set-up and whether there have been any user-specific changes they're all pretty valid pointers for problem solving (I'd need to check them anyway on my setup which has multi-SSIDs, mixed fixed & dynamic IP ranges,MAC filters, ACLs etc!) .... as for the gateway, had a quick look and couldn't find a setup manual on-line, just ... http://www.ovoenergy.com/ovo-answers/gateway-installation-instructions/ ... which effectively instructs the user to plug it in and go to the online account ... anyway, if it was here the meter wouldn't get a 3G data connection at all unless it was upstairs or outside at the front, even then it'd be 'iffy' ....
As it stands, I wouldn't even have attempted to install/setup the gateway until the smart-meter was working - there's probably some form of auto-initialization to change flags on the on-line account when the meter makes first-contact with it's server.
