Or at least anywhere in the world that happens to have same latitude, longitude & altitude as you do (as long as roof geometry is the same) :D

Nope, you still don't get it! So once more for the cheap seats, comparing and explaining are two different things.

You can compare your system to any other system, any size, anywhere in the world.

Me thinks this comes to mind Mart....smiley-laughing021.gif........deadhorsebeat_4.gif

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).

What I don't get is how comparing one system in (say) Cardiff with another in (say) Mexico City gives you any benefit whatsoever !

That's fine. If you don't care, you don't care, nothing wrong with that. But you keep stating that 'you can't compare', and that is wrong, 100% wrong.

It's not an argument, opinion, view. It's a mathematical fact. 2 is bigger than 1, so if I get 1 O, and in the same 24hr period a system in Australia gets 2 O's then it has performed better than mine. How do I know? Simples. I've compared 1 with 2 and I know that 2 is bigger than 1.

So, for the 20th(?) time, a comparison is not only possible, it's absolutely easy. If you want to know the reasons for the difference, or you have no interest in the numbers, then that's fine, but please stop making false statements ....

However, it's completely useless for comparing systems in different locations or with different roof geometry etc.

    ..... everytime someone asks about kWh/kWp (O's).

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

  • Yesterday I just about broke the 24kWh mark (24.07) taking me to 6 O's, The second best day since install last September.. (24.09kWh)

There was quite a bit of cloud in the afternoon as well. I'm really hoping for a clear sunny day from dawn to dusk (maybe tomorrow/weds) to really see what the system is capable of. Maybe I'll hit 28kWh (7 O's) fingers crossed!!! :)

Unless of course your panels get too hot because of no clouds and then you'll wish for sunny days with the odd regular cloud to cool them !
If the panels get too hot this can have a detrimental effect on their generation.

In that very restricted sense of 'compare' then you're right. However, what is the sense in dividing by system size (allegedly to make a fairer comparison) when you can just as easily 'compare' the gross output of a huge system in a sunny area and announce that it's 'better' than a small system in a cloudy area.

The simple ratio of kWh/kWp was designed to compare outputs of different panels under identical test conditions and in that respect it does a sterling job. Extending that to comparing different panels under different conditions achieves nothing.

The only way in which you could gain useful knowledge from a comparison of two different systems would be to compare each to its own pvgis forecast then decide how much better or worse than expected each is doing.
