    RKuk,

Don't worry about the figure but sign up for the free monitoring tool, there are even some sites that offer cash back for this just make sure you cancel it at the end of the free trial

Thanks Cam, what's the free monitoring tool? At the moment I'm so busy with work etc I'm thinking I should just pay the £2 as I may forget to cancel the subscription.

I really want to sort my CC out today if possible, don't know if I should wait for my credit report to arrive or do the equifax one now?

A credit score is just a number. Don't get suckered into paying a number which to very honest may not mean a lot to a lender.

You need to checking for any accounts you are unaware of, old debts, accounts that are open that you don't use, being on the electoral roll.

All the agencies give a number but the companies may have a very different scoring method and may not offer you credit.

Start with looking at your file and checking everything is correct on it.

Ok Cam - well in that case, I'm pretty sure I know of all my DD's loans and CC details etc, so I will pay the £2 fee for the equifax one and see if there is anything on my file with them. I don't want to wait for the experian one to come as I have to wait for a letter with login details etc.

I will check that file and see if there is anything odd sticking out.

    Thanks

    Good plan, start there.

Do you have any other outstanding cards you can close down in the meantime

I don't think so. I really hope there is a glaringly obvious error, which can be fixed. Right - I'm off to pay another £2!

I suppose at least I can check both reports once the longer one comes through!

    I'll report back! :)
    Thanks!

Well...I paid the £2, logged in, everything looks accurate. The page looks green overall. Only thing I could see would be a couple of current accounts which I opened to gain access to their ISA's and never used them. They're still in the green - nothing owed on them etc.

The only other error I could see is, my credit card is still showing near the maximum limit, when in actual fact I cleared a few grand on it the other day. This must not have updated or refreshed just yet.

I just used Martin's basic credit rating checker, and I came out as an average score! So his advice is to apply for the not so popular cards. I'm wondering if it's worth calling to apply for a card?
  • Try Creation Cards...... they search equifax as opposed to experian.

with the application you have made, there should be no foot prints on equifax.

my experian file is full of searches... my equifax was zero. i now have 4 creation cards!!! : ) ill wait for my experian seraches to drop off in another 4 months and shift these across

    Thanks debtdestroyer! :)

it's funny you mention that as another member on here mentioned them, and also I've done a little check on moneysupermarket.com and they suggested that at top of the list with a 7/10 rating.

The second in choice was the Halifax all in one card though and I was rejected for that. Though I think I'm gonna give it a go and see what happens.

It's a really bizarre system on how they score you I suppose.

    Wish me luck!!
    :)

Well it looks like scott lithgow and debtdestroyer were correct. I have applied for the creation card.

    Transferred:
£3k of my existing CC debt (all of it) from my barclaycard

    Credit limit:
They have given me £2k, does this mean that I have access to a further £2k - excluding my transfer? e.g. effectively I have access to £5k, but 3k is already taken up.

At least I've managed to shift my 3k. I plan on paying it off over the 9months anyway - possibly even quicker if I can with a bit of luck, and getting the card right down to zero. I only want the card to spread some costs and save me time. Not to buy lots I can't afford.

One slight error - I asked them to transfer £3k, but I only owe £2,873 as my direct debit payment has just updated. Should I contact creation and tell them to adjust the transfer? Or do I need to manually transfer the money once I gain access to the card?

    What an idiot I am!
