Have you maxed this yrs Santander ISA & managed to open a new one with Santander?

Basically i subscribed to a 2011-2012 ISA with Santander & maxed it out 6th April 2011.
I've now applied for a 1yr fixed ISA with Santander, but got refused ........ as i've paid in £5340 for this tax year.
Now, i don't want to wait until 6th April to apply for this ISA as it may have gone by then. All seems very poor. Why can't i open it & leave it blank? Nobody says i have to credit it with NEW money.

You should be able to transfer your existing Santander ISA to the new 1 or 2 year fixed ISAs.
See these posts by people who have done this.Cross posted from the best ISA thread...
I have gone for the Santander 4% 2 year one over the phone as my existing ISA was with them and I wanted to transfer it.
Although it wasnt due to mature until the beginning of April they upgraded it over the phone to the new rate as its an instant access one so its now earning 4% rather than the 3.x is was currently on.
Took about 20 mins to setup as they had to read out all the legal t&c, explain the features, etc. (the call centre guys must get fed up of that after a while) but at the end of the call the upgrade was done and already showing online.
Will top it up with next years allowance in April then think about applying for the Zero account after 3 months.
Edit: Seems the Zero Current account has been pulled with the launch of the 123 account
My son transferred his loyalty flexible ISA over the phone last night. Apart from having to listen to tedious recordings and the operator repeating herself, it was all done and within seconds of the conversation ending, the ISA was showing as a Fixed Rate ISA on his internet banking details.
Will be putting in next year's allowance on 6 April.
If you are an exisiting Santander ISA customer and going to do this over the phone, make sure you have your NI no to hand - the operator asked my son for this.0 -
I know this. I should be able to do exactly what i'm trying to, but they don't seem to want to let me.
- Open it today with a balance of £0
- transfer old isa money from halifax
- in april, transfer 2011-2012 subscription from santander INTO the 1yr fixed
- 6th april deposit the full amount for 2012-2013
Nothing wrong with that, yet they wont let me even open it with a balance of £0 .... because i've already paid in the maximum this year to another isa.

Sorry but are you wanting to make the initial transfer with a Santander ISA or a Halifax?0 -
a Halifax one (made up of previous tax years contributions).
From what i understand, there's nothing wrong with this, but for some reason they don't want my money.
I've already put in a complaint over this & the fact that their online team are ignoring my messages PLUS when i called & was promised they'd call back - they haven't. All lies & poor service.
My current cash ISA with them gets 3.5% anyway until 28th March.
I may have a look at what else is on the market then if they don't want nearly £30k banked with them in pretty much 1 whack.0 -
No there is nothing wrong with what you are wanting to do.
I can only suggest you ring and speak to a different person at Santander.
Or go into a branch and get them to open the ISA and initiate the transfer for you.
Others have done this.0 -
Going to the bank isn't an option i'm afraid - due to work.
I could call, but it'd be after 7pm/8pm, so i hope they're open late.
The problem is they beat competitors by some distance.0 -

What u r looking to do seems a little awarkard tho
Can I ask y u don't just upgrade ur isa with Santander & fill out a transfer form to transfer Halifax Then come 6th April deposit it in to that account
As u say ur Santander isa is 3.5 and so is the 1 yr fixed rate
If u open a 1 yr fixed u need to have the transfer form bk to Santander with 14 days So u wouldn't have been able to do another transfer in to it in April from ur existing Santander isa0 -
They will just upgrade my current ISA to a 1yr fixed?0

From what I have read initial money or at least transfer form has to be received with in 14 days of account opening, then after 6th April only new 2012-13 money can be put in.
So I don't think it is allowed to transfer your old HalifaX ISA now and the Santander one in April.
As others have said you should be able to transfer the existing Santander ISA into the new fixed one now and not wait until April.0
