Help haggling with Virgin... Please??

Hi

I have always been successful at haggling with Virgin in the past and getting them down to a deal that I think is reasonable however they seemed to have really tightened up....

Some might think I am already on a good deal, but trust me I have had it about £13 cheaper still from them in the past.

I have 10MB broadband, basic phone and XL TV with Tivo and I am paying £46.50 a month. My contract is now finished so I contacted them to try and get it for less, threatening to leave and said that I can get a better deal elsewhere and even with them as a new customer.

They gave me all the spiel that their broadband is better as fibre optic and BT can only give up to 8MB depending on exchange blah blah

She offered to upgrade me to 20MB for free, but Virgin wrote out saying they were doing this for all their customers anyway.

I told them as a new customer through Quidco I could get over £300 in savings, and that as an O2 mobile customer I could get broadband with them for as little as £3.50

Virgin say XL and Tivo is £40 on it's own and she just said they can't do any better than the deal I am on, but I don't believe that so wondered if anyone else has a better deal and how did you pull it off? -

I had a better deal than this last year but stupidly altered my package I was paying £35 a month including XL TV

Any tips greatly appreciated

That's haggling with Virgin Media by the way, not haggling with a virgin lol

OK for £50.90 I've got my BB increased to 20MB, a free HD Virgin box for upstairs with free installation (cost to have additional box is extra £6.50 pm)

So I got about £3 knocked off lol!! Better than nothing

I actually rang and said I wanted to cancel to get that

if you went through with the disconnection you may have got more.

But the threats of go to o2 etc are empty to Virgin when the internet product is under discussion, they know, when correctly configured thier product does the speed it says on the tin...

I tried everything haha! Even saying that I had been a loyal customer for 8 years when they were Telewest Blueyonder so where's my loyalty discount...

Virgin are being really tight at the moment and don't seem to be giving anything away. I phoned up to cancel, was never even offered anything to stay and had no phonecall with an offer either.

In my experience its important to get them on your side when you call up. Introduce yourself, tell them how long you've been a customer, since the blueyonder days etc, etc.

Then just tell them youre not happy. Your friends and family have better deals than you and youve been with them longer etc, etc.

Any sign of pixelation of channels, the odd unplanned outage and Im on the phone and wangling a £10 credit on my bill. simples.

I actually emailed to complain about something once, but they took so long to call me back I just said "listen mate, I cant remember what the problem was, it was 2 months ago".

I asked them to credit me a tenner and we would say no more about it. The guy said thats not how they work.

60 seconds later he agreed and we all got on with our lives again.
