Optout: txt STOP 2 81025

My mobile phone is suddenly being bombarded with advertising text messages. Each says the above (see title).

I want to know if I send a sms to each as they say:

1. Will it cost me? I am on PAYasYOUGO.

2. Will it be effective & the texts stop?

It'll just confirm your number is active so you'll get even more spam!

If you're getting unsolicited stuff from a shortcode (sorry, can't remember the correct name, but referring to the 81025 number) you can report it to the ICO:

    http://www.ico.gov.uk/

It annoys me that these spammers expect me to pay to send them a text telling them to stop, so I never do...

If I do nothing except delete the calls, what about if I go abroad and take my PAYGO phone?
Won't I be charged to receive eachsms as well?
I think is is 35p a time and I'm getting lots of these texts every day now.

Which network are you with ? There might be a procedure to get your number changed. Or you could just get another PAYG SIM card after you've used all your credit on this one. As said, replying just confirms your number is active and it weill be sold on to more scammers.
Also, charges for each operator are different re receiving SMS abroad.

I called phonepayplus just now. They don't help unless they are premium rate texts I'm getting.

I called my mobile provider. They checked and said they are free and coming from 2Ergo.com and they will call them to put a stop on it.

Charges are the same actually: incoming texts are free.

I am with T-Mobile and they told me just now that incoming texts abroad is free, I only pay for incoming calls.

T-Mobile advised me: don't reply. They are going to stop it for me and call me back.

I had 7 texts this morning while I was with someone. It is a nuisance.
  • This is so annoying. What the networks recommend you do, however, is forward the message to them (7766 works for O2 and most of the other networks) and they can then look into it. Good luck!
