I think you were lucky though because despite what ebay may have said in their tutorial a seller can charge what they like for P and P. If he had insisted on the £25 you could have tried reporting him to ebay and he may have got a warning, but they can't force him to lower his p and p. If that had happened he could then have filed a NPB against you and got a strike on your account.
Others have said it but it is worth saying again, if a seller does not tell you what post and packing is, don't bid.

Hi.
I don't bid on items on ebay that I don't know what the p&p is. If it isn't stated, I'll send the seller an email to find out. If they don't reply, well probably best not to buy from them! It does mean that you dont bid on item until you know the postage so you may miss out...... but I feel happier knowing what I should be paying. Oh, keep the their reply email in case of problems. I have never had any problems though there will always be a first time.0
