bit of a rant here. I got a bit burnt on my first ebay purchase, so have been wary for sometime. Today I saw an item I fancied and finally succumbed - a rucksack, with only a minute or so to go, and still a reasonable price.
surprisingly, I won - £22 for a "mint" da kine heli rucksack, from a guy with 100% feedback, albeit only a few transactions. but hey, I only have one myself, so who am I to judge?
P&P was not specified, but then again it wasn;t when I won my other auction, but the guy's request for payment just arrived
£25 postage for a £22 rucsack!
I'm hoping that it was mistyped and should have been £2.50 (and have mailed him to that effect), but somehow I doubt it.
I haven't had chance to go into it deeply yet,but offhand, does anyone know if I can do anything about the postage? Will post up when I get more info one way or the other

It can't be £25 to send a rucksack! I would refuse to pay that it's jus silly. And I reckon you would have a case as he did not specifiy this in the auction. Common sense tells us a rucksack does not cost £25 to send - so I am sure eBay would be on your side.
Tbh I think it's a mistype. Have you e-mailed him? Where is he shipping from?
Let us know how you get on.

PS love the pic - TIMMY!!! lolThe main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)0 -
thanks for the quick reply - makes me feel nicer.
He's in leeds, I'm in stockport so for less than £25 I could drive over and collect it! I'd expected to pay around £5, tops, as it's only a small bag.
I do hope it's a typo, but we'll see. he may think that as a "newbie" with only on transaction I'm fair game, but that isn't the case.
Timmy indeed. regular avatar for me for some years now

Maybe it's full of bricks?
Seriously though, £25 is far too much!! However I'm not sure if you can do much about the postage (apart from complain to the seller) as it wasn't specified and you have agreed to buy the item. I'm always wary of auctions where p&p is not stated - in fact I never bid on them!
If you only have 1 feedback then if it is £25 I wouldn't pay. If you get a neg from the seller, just close your account and open a new one.0 -
Saw A Standard Tee In On Ebay Today Going For £4.99 On An Auction Style Format

And Rec 1st Class Was........£14.99, Unbelievebale0 -
a while ago i saw an ipod go for £1 on ebay i thought WOW,then i saw the postage was £250
i would think ebay would frown upon this as they do not get fees for postage costs only what the item sells for,you notice that a lot of peole charge high postage to cover ebay/paypal fees and to cover temselves if their item doesnt sell for much
they should be wearing a stripped jumper and a mask
nbt - keep us informed of how you get on0 -

From Ebay: Listing techniques that circumvent Ebays Fee structure.
"Users may not use systems or techniques to interfere with the proper working of the eBay site, which includes the circumvention of the eBay fees. Some examples include:- Auctions with low bid prices, but unreasonably high shipping costs"
see the rest @ http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-circumventing.html

A while ago there was a p+p workshop on the ebay community boards. In it the Ebay official staff running the workshop said that if postage and packaging is not specified in the auction, the seller can only charge the exact cost of postage. This surprised a lot of people, as we'd never heard this before, but the ebay staff confirmed it several times. Let your seller know this and explain that he cannot make you pay more than cost price for p+p as it wasn't in the listing.
Sorry I don't know where to find the workshop on ebay now, but if you root around in the community section of ebay you might just find it.0 -
I once sent a PlayStation 2 (old style so larger than the new slimline ones) through the post by Special Delivery and that was £18.50.
As someone else has said, if it isn't a mistype, give him a negative and start again. From what you have said, your seller stands to lose out more than you from doing this.0 -
The thing is I read on one of the ebay 'help' pages if the postage isn't stated they (the seller) can only charge the cost of the stamps. Haven't got time to search it out but I did read it for sure.
