think will go on sainsburys ban and try tesco for next mainstream shop.Done farmfoods today as was so cheap in comparision and that was branded goods.

think the value cookies in sainsburys 69p now or can get 2 maryland in farmfoods for £1 then when get checkout get to use money off coupons.

annoyed myself as said hubby get selected deals on frozen in sainsburys half price birdseye crispy chicken down to £1.74 so 33.48 normally per box or farmfoods 2boxes for £3 so £1.50 each.

just the value lines bugs me as cant cut back any lower than basics and now price is catching up with sainsburys own brand in soem cases barnded on offers cheaper.

As a Sainsburys employee, I shop at Aldi, Asda and Farmfoods. Iceland is where I buy my milk. I live alone and 4 pints does me for 6-7 days. Even with staff discount, it costing me 7p more for 4 pints of skimmed milk. As Iceland and Farmfoods are down the same road as us, colleagues including myself have the cheek to pop into I or FF at lunchtime and buy chilled and/or frozen stuff and stick it in the chiller or freezer in the back!

Some colleagues still haven't latched on the fact they can save money such as getting 18 loo rolls for £4 at FF. At work, 9 rolls is £3.60 after staff discount. A few of us are now buying Nicky loo rolls at FF and when we see a colleague buying our own loo roll, we mention Nicky loo roll. They say they don't have the time to go to FF. Most of these colleagues are part time! Go at your lunch hour (as some part timers do a couple of full time hours days and 2 days of 4-5 hours) or after work!

I have bought in FF last month 4 packs of straight to wok noodles (2 in each pack) and 6 packs of stir fry sauces for £3. At work, it would cost me a little over double after staff discount!

I only buy things when they are on offer such as spirits, washing liquid etc. I love the Indian ready meal deals as well (4 mains and 2 sides for £10).

I tend to go to Wilkinsons for my cleaning products these days.
  • I think the price at Sainsburys is ridiculous. For the exact products that i get at farm foods, or Quality Save, they seem to charge double the price... I was in there today trying to find something which was out of stock else where and they charged £1.50 extra... For the exact same product (and the other place didn't have it on discount)...

I also find the service at my local Sainsburys to be HORRIBLE. The staff there are rude and of no help at all, and (i know this is of no fault of the store) the customers there are so far up their own "selves" that they must think they are royalty (I have been bashed out of the way with trollies too many times to count when picking something up, because the other customer didn't want to wait for me to move...)

I would much rather stick to my circle of shops where I visit Quality Save, Farm Foods, Wilkinsons, Aldi and then Tesco (only go in Tesco to pick up the stuff I couldn't get anywhere else/if i know there is an offer on).

    :-)

I think with Sainsbury you really do need to be clever and not assume that 'basics=cheaper' all the time, often other stuff on offer or bought with coupons works out cheaper than basics and is better quality too but some of the basics' items are still good buys. Their prices go up and down like a yo-yo so you need to keep track of them a bit. Basics apples are one example, were 80p and pretty good, then shot up to 90p and had a measley 4 small apples in each bag, now they are back down to 80p again and have 5-6+ decent braeburn apples in each bag. I do think the quality of most stuff in the basics range is better quality and tends to go further than items from the similar ranges in tesco and ASDA. I think it depends what you buy as well, as my shops in Sainsbury's are cheaper than when I shop anywhere else, last week's main shop there was only £37 but I got bags and bags full of stuff that I struggled to get home. Am going back there today to bag some more chocolate philly and tilda rices; both half price and cheapest I have seen them anywhere. 'My supermarket' always picks Mr S as cheapest for my stuff too. I don't use tissues (use loo roll or kitchen roll), batter or custard mix so any price rises on those don't affect me. xx

Then you really should buy your stuff in ASDA. That way you'd get it at Sainsburu's prices plus another 10% off under the APG.

I buy this all the time for cooking (it really is the best), it's been 35p here for at least the last 6 months if not longer, and was 36p at one point
Value toilet rolls were about £1 now almost £2

They're double length rolls now, they last twice as long. I bought a 6 pack 3 weeks ago and they're still going strong, I normally get through 3-4 normal rolls a week.

I expect it's cost you more in electricity booting up your computer to start this thread, than you would have saved had Sainbury's not increased their prices by 2p.
