Car Gearbox Trouble?
Comments
-
The car is now in the dealership awaiting their opinion. They said they need to drop the gearbox to examine further (calling back on tuesday)
Independent quotes for third gearbox and another new clutch on her 58 reg car are approx £700-£800.
I am not a mechanic but an aircraft engineer and personally serviced the vehicle ensuring all levels were satisfactory. I doubt very much if she sold the car she would cover the costs of her finance so thats not really an option.
Thanks to all who had offered there advice so far, ill update you on tuesday when they call back.

Changing your oil will not void your warranty.
As an military aircraft engineer I have a tendency to be very skeptical of any motor garage, and check everything that they touch, amending/adjusting as necessary.
stamps in the books and a full car service I'm happy with!0 -

see it this way, you change the oil fine.
making any adjustments or amendments? by whatever that means is not your place. if you have issues with a product or any of its componants it the place of the manufacturer to rectify. they could argue that adjustments and amendments that YOU have made could contribute to a part failing voiding a warranty regardless if it were stamped in the book by a dealer. just dont tell them you make adjusments ammendmants to thier works they would argue you messed with it by admitting that aspect and void your warranty i dont touch any engine parts or parts covered by a warranty eventhough i would love to put xyz right and inspect xyz make adjustments to xyz or amend xyz because it would pose potential problems with warranty issues.
just saying dont let out that info to them.0 -

Turbo failure, valve seals, piston rings, bearings, engine management, anything to do with the engine, they'll void any warranty for if you change the oil or filter.
(And you tell them)
If they find a halfords filter on there, that'll give it away too.0
