have just sorted out my kitchen cupboards and i seem to have 18 cans of tinned spaghetti on my shelves - now i know that i can give it to the kids on toast or with a meal but wondered if anyone had any bright ideas of how i can make it more interesting for them?
the other thing i seem to have loads of is soup [baxters veg soups mainly] would it be possible to supplement this to make it more filling?
hubs currently does the shopping hense my odd stockpiling of food - am planning on taking it over soon so i have more control on what we get ;-)
thanks a lot

I sometimes have tinned spag with mashed potato or jacket potato and its quite nice.
Why not serve it to husband for 18 meals in a row with a variety of different flavourings eg pepper, tabasco, marmite, garlic, worcestershire sauce, barbeque sauce, mustard, anchovy paste, paprika, curry. it'll get rid of them in a couple of weeks and will stop him ever buying it again
Are the soups smooth soups? If so they make quite good sauces for other things - ie over chicken or with pasta.Blah0 -
If the soups are thicker type you could add more water, more veg and herbs etc to make ... soup! Bit more filling and tastier than just the tin tho. Either as a snack-type meal or as a cheap starter so you don't need so much of the more expensive main courseMink0

or jsut have them as a tin of soup with a roll (give them to husband for meals alternating with the tinned sketti)Blah0 -

What is it with tinned spaghetti -- i've got about 7 tins in the back of the larder....I can't stand the stuff and the kids don't like it much either....my excuse is that the larders a big old fashioned walk in one and things get lost in the gloom!!
I'm having a family "doo" for easter tho and hubby and I decided that we're going to use up all the "crap" foods that we've got about the place...we want to start this healthier eating lark full on after the Easter school hols...what better way to get rid of it all than to feed it to other people!!
My sisters kids wont object to spaghetti and chicken nuggets...not so sure my aunt and uncle will be so impressed tho!!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Hi There
My daughter would live on tinned spagetti..lol. I serve it if we have egg & chips, on toast and on jacket spuds. If we have anyone for lunch-always goes down well or beans. Melted cheese is nice too with the spagetti. Ive also put it in a curry before and was quite.....weird
The tinned soup I would cook with chops, chicken pieces even sausages in the slow cooker..yummy
Good luck

could just use up a tin every sunday with a cooked breakfast
not a newbie now: but still be gentle with me0 -
I also hate tinned spaghetti, I remember battling this with small children who would be lured by the Turtles, Postman Pat orwhatever picture on the tin. IMO it's rubbish so I would get rid and donate to a neighbour or friend who would use it. Or wait until after the summer and give an extra big donation for Harvest Festival!0
