The aspect of my letter which concerns me the most is that it appeared to be an individual staff member trying to get me to call him on his mobile. No doubt so as I get him directly and he is therefore assured of the commission for himself. But how about the other aspect of this in that there will be no record of the call by the bank. I can think of a few potential scenarios here ...

A second worry, based on the second call, is that it appears that the account managers at any branch appear to be able to go through the lists of accounts held at other branches and call up the account holder to try to lure the account holder into their branch using the pretext that they are 'reviewing' their account (i.e. implying something is wrong with the account or that non-coperation may result in an unsatisfactory review) in order to sell them something. There should be security procedures in place to stop this. My account is with X branch. Why should the staff at y branch have any access to my account information unless I go into that branch to make a transaction or enquiry?

I'm sorry, Lloyds TSB, you're lying!

As soon as I saw just the title of this thread I just knew it was going to be LTSB!! I, too, got one of these letters last week which annoyed me for three reasons:

    1) They didn't try to contact me - we had no missed calls or voicemails left on our home telephone and I know they have my mobile number as they have called me on it previously and they definitely didn't even try this time.
    2) The letter was addressed to just me when it (allegedly) refers to the joint account I hold with my wife - I'm not a blatant 'women's libber' but I do consider it, at best, impolite to exclude her from this 'important contact' about our JOINT account.
    3) When I got around to calling them back (last Friday afternoon at 2:25pm) I got a recorded message saying the bank is closed and I should call back during normal opening hours. What? 2.25pm on a Friday afternoon isn't 'normal opening hours'. Do they all take long weekends off?

I have been a happy personal (and previous business customer) of the bank for many years but in recent years the personal touch has completely gone and LTSB seem to have become a sales driven organisation, constantly hassling for account reviews as a thinly veiled disguise for a sales opportunity. Myself and my wife had an account review in March last year from our new 'account manager' and we felt he really took an interest in us. However, within 6 weeks or so he was back on the phone to say he was our new account manager and he would like to meet us to introduce himself and hold an account review, obviously having completely forgotten our previous meeting. To make matters worse a few weeks later someone else phoned to arrange a date for our account review (told them we already had one) and then, a month or so later, someone else called for the same reason. How many sodding review meetings do you need each year?

In November I had the 'call me on my mobile' letter too - just ignored that one (especially as the chap it came from had a bit of a comedy surname :D!!)

Ask for a CPD marker on your account. They'll never contact you again! :D

With that marker on, they never even rang me for my courtesy call that the welcome pack said I'd get after 4-6 weeks after account opening! :)
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

I reckon that just proves that the "courtesy call" is just a sales opportunity!

    PR230 letter.

Standard letter for sales from Lloyds. They have never tried to contact you. Its for you to contact the branch to get a sale as your eligible for a certain product.

As people have said before, yes it is marketing. Change all your marketing preferences to No and it stops. (Most of the time)

Hi Simax - has that well loved CPD dropped of yet?

They might want to sell you something.

If you opt out of their marketing preferences they can't cold call you so their only way is for you to call them.

Even if you say no to marketing, if they are calling you regarding another issue, eg fraud, lost card, post returned statements etc then they can still call you.

If you have a relationship manager, then he/she can call to see 'how things are going' etc as well.
I am employed as a manager in a financial services institution. My views are entirely my own.
