BT 5 weeks to fix a fault !!

Some fool had a fire on the verge and it burnt the BT cable ( they sometimes don't even bury the cables up here) anyway 6 days and the engineer came out, can't mend that it will need 150 meters of new cable and the van (a single engineer comes by plane with a toolbox) The van plus men are due 16th March:mad: Not only have i lost my phone (they have redirected to my mobile so not to bad ) but of course more importantly no internet access (BT internet) to our website, where my wife sells her wares. So we are losing not a vast amount of money but enough for a fledgling business. As we run our own site any sales mean we must delete items and upload new pictures and the only place to do this is on a dial modem at our community centre:eek:
Am i right in thinking we may be able to get some compensation, has anyone been successful ?
This is what happens with a company with a complete monopoly.
Strange, when i cut through the Bt cable outside the house last year they mended it in 2 days and charged me £150:mad:

I live in a built up area of Kent, cable fault just up the road from where I live where a lorry had backed into a green cabinet by the side of the road, i was off the air for a month !!

so looks like it's not unique to the Orkneys :) lol

when the fault is cleared you just need to call the fault desk again and they automatically credit the compensation (think it's after 3 working days )

I thought you didn't get compensation if you had your calls diverted?

    Cheers, Des.

we were without a phone line for seven weeks took a phonecall to a consumer radio show in the end to get it sorted, because we had calls diverted to our mobile all we got was 90p per day for each day we were without a phone,we spent over £30 in mobile phone calls as 0800 numbers are not free on mobiles paid for a month and a half of internet access we never had and they still would not refund us,so dont expect much in the way of compensation.

If you are only paying for a 'home' internet package then there probably isn't a great deal you can do - certainly not claim for loss of business as they can reasonably argue that if you are using it to run a business you should buy a business package, which includes set service levels and agreements on compensation if they aren't met.

Don't know about the phone though.

niccy ....will you get compensation for not having the phone for 5 weeks ?

I reparted a fault that was intermittant (could here faint voices sometimes), it gradually got worse until it was a big problem! I picked up the phone and heard a neighbour! I was compensated from the day the original date, I had reported a fault . It had been ages...I got over a couple hundred pounds!:o

Not much help when you want the connection though!

    :j :j :j its back on

does anyone know of sites regarding BTs terrible customer service.
I cannot believe that this company can treat its customers like this, they have the cheek to bill me for internet and phone in advance and now i will proberbly have to wait ages to get that back.Is there a petition anywhere ?
    or a disgruntled consumers site?

.. and I'll be quite happy to contribute.

My OH has a work unit in the middle of nowhere. In December, the farmer ploughing the field ploughed up the BT cable as it was only about 6 inches down. So the phone was out for over a week, he had to have calls diverted to a mobile, extra cost (of using the mobile), problems with people trying to fax orders through etc.

When BT came to repair the cable, did they bury it any deeper or put it somewhere else or protect it in anyway. Oh no. So in February, guess what, the phone stopped working. Took BT a couple of days to admit that it was the same problem, took them another week to fix it, and have they made any changes to the cable? Of course not... just waiting for it all to happen again.

He's now seriously thinking about giving up on BT altogether and just having a mobile, because their customer service in this instance was appalling.

Where's the 'ranting at BT' emoticon when you need one!!
