I have just purchased 2 mobile phones from the Phoneboxdirect.com website. They are 12 month contracts with 12 month free line rental through cashback.
However, I am just a bit worried about getting my cash back as the instrustions that came with the phones is very vague and confusing.
Are there any phoneboxdirect customers out there who are willing to advise me on exactly what to do in order to get my cash back?
Is it true that I may be charged £1.99 for getting itemised bills? I was not advised about this when I purchased the phones.

Hi Sweet Sugar,
If it's not been said before now then please let me say "Welcome to MSE".
Now onto the meat of your problem...
First of all, it is quite common for networks to charge for itemised billing these days and it is always the case that cashback deals exlude the cost of itemised billing. Thus "12 months free" will only cover the line rental charge for the 12 months.
However, it is quite possible that the itemised billing is optional i.e. you can simply ring up the network and ask for it to be removed from your account. This will still result in a bill being issued every month - it's just that there will be no call-by-call breakdown, just a summary total. This will be sufficient for claiming your cashback and IB cancellation has not (to date) been treated as a change of tariff i.e. your cashback entitlement shouldn't be affected.
As for how you claim from Phonebox Direct, after you have been connected for 120 days, you send the ORIGINAL of the very first bill that you receive which is dated on or after that date, along with a filled in claim form, to claim the first part of your cashback. To be accepted, your claim must reach Phonebox Direct within 1 calendar month of the date on teh bill attached to your claim.
Repeat this process after 180, 240, 300 and 360 days from the start of the contract to claim the second, third, fourth and fifth parts of your cashback.
All cashback claims should be processed by Phonebox Direct within 28 days fo receipt and you will be sent a cheque for the relevant amount.
HOWEVER...and this is important...fail to successfully claim any one of your claims and all remaining claims will be automatically voided.
NOTE: If you have ported your old number in to your new contract, PBD will also require the original of your first bill with your first claim, showing the original number they assigned to you. However, don't try and port an old number into either an O2 or Vodafone contract as doing so can affect the retailer's commission and, subsequently, void your cashback. Don't ask me why this is...it just is.
Full details of their cashback T&Cs can be found here:

Shouldn't this really be stated in the companies t&c's ? As when I looked through, I couldn't see anything about this. But when I called, they told me I couldn't port the number! But what would've happened if I transferred the number? As according to the t&c's, it's ok...Phonebox_Directs_T&Cs wrote:If it is your first claim and you have ported your number in from a previous supplier you must also send your first bill showing the original mobile number we supplied to you.Phonebox_Directs_T&Cs wrote:Porting (keeping your old number)
When making the first instalment claim at 120 days, with a PORTED number, we need in addition to the standard requirements above, a copy of the first bill showing the original number we supplied to you.
From what i can see from the T&C's, that's all that it says about porting...
And couldn't see anything elsewhere on website either.
So I wonder how you would stand, as they didn't tell you in advance you couldn't port to those networks, and in the T&C's, they state you can still port and claim your cashback...0 -

"Cash Back Claims
Cash back claims are available to customers by redemption that subscribe to a brand new 12, 18, or 24 month service agreement where all payments are up to date and paid in full. Cash backs are claimed by sending us the original claim form, correctly completed. We send this to you by email when you purchase your handset. Along with the claim form, send us the original airtime bill showing your name, address, mobile number and tariff. You receive this by post from your network operator. We do not accept copies or online bills. We only accept one claim per envelope. Your name, address, mobile number and tariff must be shown on the bill, we will not authorise any claim where this information is missing or the bill has money outstanding. We therefore recommend that you pay your bills on time and do not cancel or take a summary itemised bill from the network. If it is your first claim and you have ported your number in from a previous supplier you must also send your first bill showing the original mobile number we supplied to you"
I would ring and ask them just to be on the safe side, as after reading the t&c I still have no idea0 -
Absolutely the worst mobile phone scam company I have ever dealt with. I sent in my first claim a month early due to confusing wordings in their T&Cs and Cashback offer documents. They sent deducted £10, just for this. They say that they never received the 2nd claim docs, now. They say all my future claims are void now. And all this time, I am paying over the odds for calling this 0870 number. None of the other landlines listed at saynoto0870.com or the one above seem to work. If I can, I am going to tell all my friends and whoever else I can to avoid this company.Look after your pennies, and your pounds will look after themselves!0
