At Wits End With Orange Livebox Performance

Hi.
We have had no end of problems with our Orange Livebox. We keep losing our internet connection and our phoneline goes to an engaged tone. We have tried everything to sort it out. Rebooting the livebox etc. We have had numerous phone calls with Orange Support - always in india and always running through the same procedures over and over again but with no resolution of problems. Our phone lines are also crackling. The problem is that it is intermittent and you can always guarantee that when you phone Orange Support everything starts working again.
Has anybody else had these problems? We are at end of our tether. Don't think we will be renewing our contract with orange.
So frustrated.

A crackle on the line indicates a physical line problem, not a broadband issue. Retest from the BT master socket behind the split faceplate using ethernet (not wireless). If still present, report it to your line rental provider (BT or Orange?) as a line fault. If BT, do not mention any broadband issue, as they will then refer you back to your ISP.
Switching provider will not make any difference whasoever if there is a physical line fault on the local loop-the fault will still be there.
I don't understand why you condemn the Livebox (rubbish though they are) when there is no evidence to support that that is the issue? This can easily be tested simply by swapping out the router for a different one.
Have you also checked your ADSL filters? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
