I did go directly to my bank and was told to get in touch with Europcar but thanks for the useless advice i guess i'll go directly to jail

Banks always try to pass the buck - if they can fob you off they will, keep getting on at them as it's their responsibility.

Don't take 'no' for an answer.

Really, really no need for that when the poster was only trying to help, maybe a little abrupt but there is no need for rudeness.

We are asked, as oldies to be kind to Newbies but Newbies have to do their bit too.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I paid £107 for five days' rental of a tiny car from Alamo. At the desk I was offered reduced excess on the insurance for £12.50. The friendly chap at the desk said "Only £12.50 - you might save yourself £100." It seemed like a good idea. I now find I have been charged an extra £111.00 by EC Vehicle Rental - more than the rental of the car - for excess waiver of £12.50 PER DAY (plus an extra charge to return the car to a different location from the hire forecourt, about which I knew). At no time was it made clear that the charge would be £12.50 per day. Customer services' only response was that it would have been on the rental agreement, which I should have read. Looks like I might have to stump up for this, but I shall fight for it.

Yes, it sounds like it was probably just a computer error.

No such thing. Computers don't make errors; people do.

    Either:-
    1) the programmer made a mistake and it didn't get caught in testing
    or
    2) Someone operating the computer entered the wrong details.

Companies use that excuse to move the blame away from those responsible and make it look like it's something they couldn't help.

No-one should ever accept that as an acceptable excuse from any company.
  • As the card used had been cancelled 12 months earlier I would have thought it reasonable for the bank to stop payment. If not what is the point of reporting any stolen or lost card.

The card may have been cancelled, but the account it was attached to would still be current, and it is the account that is debited, as part of the hire comany's T & Cs.

Looking at the age of this thread, it's probably expired! :D

  • I just hired a car from Europcar in Southampton (EC Vehicle Rental) and the bill should be £161.42 but they tried to take £2,150.00 from my account! That must be attempted fraud. My bank sent me to the company to sort it out myself, thanks Lloyds Bank, but now the bank have hopefully stopped the payment.

Hello, I'm finding myself in same kind of situation, i rented a car abroad to EC VEHICLE RENTAL LEICESTER HQ and was asked for a deposit of £250, which would be return to me when i returned the car. I returned the car on the 17/2 and money was back on cc on the 18/2. Today i went to check my cc account and saw they charged the £250 on the 20/2. I tried to called them with no joy... What should i do now? Thanks.

I recently checked my bank account using internet banking and found over £80 pounds had been taken in payment to 'EC Vehicle Rental Watford'. I had previously hired cars using 'Europcar - National' and new this to be their reference.

As I had not hired a car from them for over a month I contacted my local branch for further information. I was informed that the company was experiencing 'IT issues' and to contact customer services on 0871 384 0235 at 8p per minute (more for mobiles), as I work away from home I had to call from a mobile!

I called customer services and explained the problem and was advised that the company were indeed experiencing 'IT issues' and that I had been charged for a second time for a car I hired in July 2010! I was given a reference number and told that I would be contacted once they had investigated and tried to resolve the situation. I await a response.

I am posting as at no time has Europcar-National contacted me to advise or apologise for the error. How many people have had money taken from their account and not realised? I have been advised by my bank that it may take up to 5 working days for my money to be returned to my account.

Can this be anything other than fraud!!! They have taken payment from my account for a transaction I have already paid for, it was then up to me to discover their mistake and report it.

I ahve just recently hired a car from europcar and paid for on the day I hired but just found out 1 week after returning the car an extra payment of £187 from my credit card paid to EC Vehicle rental of Leicester HQ GB also taken from my account fraudulently what can I do about this does anybody know.
