BT Infinity on different line?

Does anyone know if it's possible to get BT Infinity Broadband but to have the line rental with another company? It's just BT is quite expensive for telephone and line rental. £129 (pa) or £14.50(?)(pcm). Or do you have no choice but to pay BT for phone line rental as well?

Ideally if I could split the two I would probably go with Primus for phone line and BT for the Infinity internet.

Thanks,
John

  • you might not be able to get BT Infinity branded broadband but you should be able to get fibre-to-the-cabinet from other suppliers eg Plusnet (which will be supplied by BT Wholesale so it's much the same product)

Thanks, Do you know if you would still need a BT line though and paying rental charges to BT? It's that bit that I want to avoid. Wouldn't mind paying for BT's Infinity broadband though.

I don't think there is any difference between BT and Plusnet? It is the same company? I think for other providers offering fibre to cab, it is going to be more expensive?

You need a BT based line, that doesn't mean that you have to pay line rental to BT. You can have the line with any BT reseller offering FTTC. Plunet is the obvious example. They are not the same company as BT. They are owned by the BT Group, but run entirely separately from BT Retail.
Almost any reseller will be cheaper than BT for FTTC.

That's strange I have yet to find one that is cheaper than £18 a month for 40mb speeds and 40GB bandwidth? I can find plenty of other telco's cheaper than BT though for line rental and call charges?

So just to clarify I can sign up with another company like Primus to provide my phone service but I can get FTTC broadband from anyone I wish? Or would I have to get both from the same provider whether BT, Plusnet or other company?

Then you haven't looked very hard-Plusnet is £16.49 for the same 40GB allowance, including evening and weekend calls, or £19.99 with Anytime calls:

Though TBH, having a 40GB cap on an FTTC service is fairly pointless, you will go through that in a week or less if you use it to capacity.
I would expect most of the resellers to undercut BT-they are one of the most expensive providers around.
    PS: it's not 40Mbps, speed, it's up to 40Mbps.
