Autoglass
On their website they ask if the chip is smaller/bigger than a £2 coin or if it's a crack.
Well ours has a crack but it's smaller than a £2 coin so hubby believes we should treat it like a chip but I disagree.
Can anyone shed any light without actually seeing it?

From your post, it asks about the size of the chip OR if it is a crack, it does not ask about the size of a crack. Probably because you can't repair a crack (I don't know the definitive answer to this) I would have thought.
Just checked, Autoglass don't repair cracks

Thank you.
I thought this but hubby seems to want to believe it's a chip.0 -
Regardless of what you or your OH thinks, it'll be the Autoglass technician who will decide on whether it's repairable or not.0

Well that's a very obvious thing to say. I do know that.
It's a bit pointless setting up the appointment and waiting around for x amount of hours to be told it's a crack not a chip.
The difference in time to replace the windscreen would have a bearing on when I could make the appointment AND I'd rather shop around to get quotes than just have autoglass do it because he's already there.0 -
Don't you have glass cover?
If so just go through their approved repairer
As I understand it they can repair chips that have "cracked out" a little bit
I would be treating it as a chip. If the damage is less than the size of a £2, then they will probably try the repair. If more then it's regarded as a crack.0 -

I never know why people give unhelpful answers like that, especially when the question has already been answered.
You're quite right to phone around, Autoglass can be bloody expensive.0 -

You could, of course, just pop into autoglass and ask them. (Other windscreen replacement companies are available)
They usually give an answer there and then. A repair takes about 30 minutes tops, whilst a replacement will often take a few hours (to allow the bonding material to set).
In the past I've found in a borderline case, the company offered to attempt a repair with the promise that if a crack later develops from that point they will replace the windscreen for their usual fee but deduct the repair cost already paid.
(and they were as good as their word since a crack did occur shortly thereafter)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

What's so unhelpful about it!
No windscreen company is going to going to give you a 100% guarantee that the windscreen is going to be repairable until they actually see it for themselves and even then they'll all warn you that the repair could turn into a full replacement. Like I said, the only opinion that counts will be the person doing the job.
OP, as has been asked, do you have windscreen cover or not?0 -
Where is the crack, if it's less than 40mm and out of the line of vision and if it's not repairabe, don't bother untill it does become an issue, my Astra went through 3 MOTs with a crack in the windscreen, it also survived very hot and very cold weather conditions without getting worse, sort of makes Autoglass advert complete BS.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0
