IE8 Dragging

I have IE8 installed on WinXp Pro SP3. I have a fibre optic connection running at 34.7mbps. IE8 should be humming but it's not, it's dragging something wicked.

What have I done to try and speed it up?

1. Cache clearout and defrag.
2. Run CC Cleaner.
3. Set IE8 to default settings.

Seemed to improve for a while but now it's dragging so much again it's almost painful to watch. In real time it's probably only a second or two but you know how impatient one gets when there is a fast connection.

Does anyone have any idea how I could speed it up and stop this dragging?

Simple ditch IE and use Firefox or other suitable browser:cool:

IE has always been fine for me. It always needs a wee tweak every now and again but having worked on cable for years I know how fast it is when it gets a good connection. Not happening at the moment with this fibre optic though but I've done a speed test and know it isn't the connection so I'm looking for that tweak tip I know I need.

Thanks. I have carried out all the tweaks I could find from your link. Computer's running a dream but IE8 still halting and slow when opening sites.

I haven't even bothered trying Firefox. I know IE8 is fine and unlike others I don't complain when it needs a tweak. Once I find the right tweak it'll be right as rain again.

The tweak you'll need is uninstall.

Guys do me a favour please. Stop ranting on about Firefox etc being better than IE8. I've come here to ask advice about tweaking IE8, not to give you a platform for something else. I'll find the right tweak eventually but I just thought that perhaps someone who is more technically minded than me might already have it. If you don't please jog on. It's not very MSE to start slagging someone off when they're asking for advice.
