I have been meaning to do this with DH, he goes to America quite often and always has a double room, or suite. We would pay for my flight, the only problem being is they have a tendency at times to chop and change plans which might leave me with a plane ticket I cant use! I would be welcome on evenings out as the Americans quite often bring their other halves. One of the cities he goes to is very walkable and the hotel is central so would be great for me to be alone during the day then meet up in the evening. Just need to make plans for the teenagers (the other obstacle lol)

We do this too, though easier with DH being self employed. But he has also come along on my trips occasionally when he has other work he could reasonably do in the same place. It can be tricky managing the different agendas though - sometimes work dinners come up at short notice and can cause disappointment for the 'following' partner. You have to be pretty self reliant. Also bring a book because it isn't always possible to go out at night on your own.

But well worth doing IMHO if it's somewhere you might want to visit.

Thanks everyone - he's going to find out if he can change the hotel room and be fairly upfront about it.

He's been to see this client a couple of times before and there's definitely no wining/dining involved. They are so tight they don't even offer him a sandwich at lunchtime. Very MSE!:rotfl:

He may have to stay on a while to get whatever he's doing done, but apart from that it should be ok.

And from the mans point of view that's the fear. If he's there specifically to do a job and things go belly up the last thing he needs is to be worrying about how you're getting on or what you're going to do while he's stuck with the client sorting the issue out. That means definitely no phone calls saying 'when are you going to be back'

Other than that go and do it and enjoy it ?

If DH is going somewhere I want to go to, then yes, I tag along. Especially if it means I can visit friends/family.

I do make sure that I'm in the position that it doesn't matter if he's working until late though, that I can get meals etc without him.

I've often tagged along if its to somewhere I fancy ;) Dh books his own hotels, usually B&B room basis. He will claim for his meal in the evening but not mine.

In fact I am off to Portugal with him soon - he has 1.5 days work over a 4 day trip, and we just have to cover the cost of my flights & train fare (flights are on points ;)).
