Do you ever go away with your spouse if they are away on company business (UK)?

Thanks - I'll get him to check it out. He normally only goes for a night at a time, so it's hardly worth it, but this time it's two nights and in a place that I'd like to visit. Also my daughter will be starting school in September and we're expecting another baby then - so I think it's the last chance we'll have to do it.0

Its allowed at dh's company. They nook double rooms anyway, and also put on corporate meals which spouses and civil partners and even girl/boyfriends are welcome to attend. In summer they have american slaw students put up for their summer placements in studio appartments, they also often bring partners! Children too, though less often,..because if the fairly obligatory one formal meal.
We pay my flights, breakfast and usually duck the free suppers bar one having cleared it with the organiser and got a recommendation for somewhere to eat tht is good local food, rather than 'international' cuisine of the corporate bashes.0 -
My boyfriend came with me to Hong Kong once. We just shared a room as I would get a double anyway, and then split meal costs when I submitted my expense claim. He paid his own airfare, which was very cheap at the time.
I was consulting too, and working massive hours, so I would get back to the hotel and he would show me the sights of HK on the back of our digital camera!! Sights I never got around to seeing myself despite numerous trips.
Was quite fun really. Regular long trips away can be pretty soul destroying, and having someone there stopped me just having a week of airport/work/eating at hotel/work/hotel.../airport.
As a consultant I would say you are sort of expected to work long hours, so the pressure to get 'home' to the hotel with someone waiting was sometimes difficult. But still nicer than being alone.0 -
Thanks everyone - I've just had a look at the hotel in detail and they offer cots free of charge so we may not need to upgrade to a family room. I don't think she'll sleep in a cot, but she usually sleeps most of the night in bed with us unfortunately. I guess we could always take her blow up ready bed too.0

We did that to, but as you say she ended up with us lol. So we dont take the blow up anymore. A bit squishy but ok for a night or two.0 -

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've just had a chat with him and he's going to ask the travel company in work. Hopefully it won't be a problem as he got offered a four poster room and he opted for standard so maybe they are not so fussy on prices. Hope we can go now!
With my daughter, the day should go quite quickly sightseeing etc.
Thanks!0 -

Have a great time!
Just a little note to add. I generally go in smarter clothes than i would normally wear for a weekend city break. I am always aware that fir me its a break, for dh its still mainly work and i am careful to reflect well on him. Such is the nature of these trips that almost inevitably you will share a breakfast with a colleague, see other partners in tourist spots nearest the hotel, and sometimes be invited to 'wives'" coffee. I always do whatinvited to so as not to be seen as standoffish, but do try and slip away before being caught for any of that stuff;).
I NEVER complain about dh's work hours with the other partners or caro about colleagues as they sometimes do. Walls have ears!
Ofcourse, i should also mention the time my too high heel boots for a woman using a walking stick, the rain and a marble floor in the foyer if the fancy parisian hotel.....ending up sprawled on the floor underneath the feet of dh's bosses:o
. But at leasti was pretty amazingly dressed:o 0 -
I personally don't - he's there for work and often networks in the evenings. The same as when I go away from work I don't ask OH to come along.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

Over the years I have been away with OH. Now I always pay my own travel and additional costs, in the dim past the American Corporate he worked for were happy for him to trade down to economy and then they would pay my long haul flights.
We would enjoy being reunited at the end of the day and snatching half days of sight seeing together or dinner.
If they are agreeable and you 'blend in' with any corporate culture when necessary you should have a lovely time.0
