I have been working in a chip shop for the past 4 years, i have been very happy there the hours reasonable to suit my needs, I have never had a problem 3 years ago one of my bosses girlfriend started working at the shop, And for the past six months she has chipped away at my confidence telling me i am slow at the cleaning i am distracted and i make mistakes(my boss has never had a problem with my work) since she started to fry she has been talking down to staff(not when the boss is around) she has caused many problems with staff. on sunday night she snapped at me again and i had to go to the staff room as i was in tears again. the other staff member that was on told the big boss who owns the shop and miss bossy got away with it again, told us that he thinks we have a problem with her even though he wasnt there when she said it.I have not been to work since i am going to see my doctor as this situation as made me a nervous wreck. what can i do? any info would be appriciated Helen

Sorry to hear about what you have been going through. Is there anyway you can contact your boss to have a chat off premesis? Just not turning up will do you no favours so i would recommend having a discussion with your boss about how you are feeling.
It might be good to have a log book/incident log of the different times she has behaved that way with dates and times and maybe witnesses.

I had to leave as i was in no fit state to work.Talking to the boss would do no good as his opinion is only opinion allowed. if you try to talk to him he puts his hand up as if to say im not listening and even though he was not present at the time will take his sons girlfriends side. I have been to the job centre and i am waiting for a appointment. Other people have left because of her. helen0

So you have left without giving notice? If so I can't imagine you'd have any comeback. What do you want the outcome to be?0

Other people who have worked there get transferred if they have a problem with anyone connected to the boss and bosses. obviously my issue has been with one of my bosses girlfriend. i work with both of them three days a week. when i applied for the job back in 2008 i told the boss i could only work at the shop i am in now. any transfer wouldn't be a option as i have a 6 year old son at school and i dont drive. i know the only thing my big boss will do is tell me to work in another shop. looks like im going to have to leave my job.Its just a shame that i loved the job until miss bossy started to make staff feel under valued and worthless. she started work after me. i am a 40 year old woman with 2 children and miss bossy just turned 20 in november. Some people call her adolf. im just gutted that i have to leave.0

Although this can't be a pleasant situation,it hardly counts as bullying. It sounds as if the boss is right - you do have a problem with her.0

You are getting me all wrong i have never had a problem with anyone at work i go there do my job and come home. i have come home and been in tears on many occasions no one has ever made me feel this. She has blamed people for her mistakes and many people have left. And yes i do have a problem now as i am jobless. I am so distressed i am having to see my doctor.0

She sounds pretty nightmarish but do you think she is actually bullying you or is she just not a very nice person to anyone? The reason I ask is because it's quite common to come across people we don't get on with but if she is actually bullying you and you have evidence and witnesses then you possibly could take some action. However as i have said previously if you just haven't turned up for your shift without ringing in sick you may not have a leg to stand on. I also don't know if walking out makes claiming benefits more difficult.
I don't think I'm getting you wrong and I understand she has really distressed you but it's just such a shame you can't go to your next shift with your head held high and a thicker skin (but I know that is a lot easier said than done). If you were attending work you could see a Dr (get signed off very temporarily?) and start looking for something new. Your loyalty to your current company would look good on a CV (without the walking out bit).Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. :oYou should have battered her....:oFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
