Blue screen on drive removal

Have an XPSP3 OP that has recently started to blue screen, intermittently when withdrawing external devices namely Fuji Digital camera and Transcend Pen Drive. Other devices phone/music and External Hard Drive are OK.

The pen drive is the main pain, even after ejecting and waiting a short time after it has gone to "removable". Pen drive works OK on other PCs/laptops.

Up till recently wouldn't matter whether they were "ejected" or not.

PC restarts fine with no error checking.

Any ideas?

Usually caused by bad hardware drivers, Could try reinstalling the ones relating to the problem devices.

    Sorry haven't kept it,
There should have been a minidump created, you can use Blue screen viewer to view it.

Latest occurrence on ejecting a USB pen drive. It doesn't happen all the time and a long time lapse is allowed after ejecting before removal.

looks like a IRQ problem - may I suggest that you go to the device manager and uninstall all the USB components - controllers, devices, etc (first removing all items attached to USB ports), reboot, then add usb devices one at a time. This will re-install the USB devices , and hopefully reset the IRQs - if still a problem, update the BIOS as this also affects the IRQs.

If needed how would I upgrade the BIOS?

Is there anyway of backing out that change and restoring the old settings?
