The guy from Anglia Water said on the radio today that permanently plumbed in irrigation systems can be used but ones relying on hosepipes could not be used.
So if you buried the hosepipe in the ground, (in my case a 4mm hose) does that count as a permanent install??2014 running challenge 471.95 km / 1000 km.0 -
just go and buy 2 X 210 L rain water butts
connect them to the downpipe, then connect your auto watering device connected to a irrigation systems ( not a soaker hose ) less wasted water
when you are going away, set the device to go off every other day ( or even every 3rd day ) then if the butt's are not full, fill them with a watering can
it will give the plants enough water to survive

Who will know that you have a hose on for drip irrigation while you are away. I very much doubt any of my neighbours would know if I had one in my back garden let alone the water company.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0

And if you do end up having to ask a friend/relative/neighbour tthen does it really need doing everyday? Ok so you do it everyday yourself but when I get my friends to look after our garden I tell them it'll need doing everyday if its really hot, otherwise every other day is fine. maybe not ideal in the long run but if it makes it easier for people who are doing you a favour then for a couple of weeks things should survive.0

I've found that plenty of organic matter in pots and a layer of pebbles on top does help stop the plants dying when I'm away on holiday.0

Try getting those large grow bag trays and putting all your pots on those. Then your neighbour can just empty a bucket of water into the trays each night or morning that it's needed and it's about 5 minutes work. Or you can use a dripper hose from the waterbutt straight into the trays and the roots soak up the water they need.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
