stolen post

i have been sent a parcel containing a mobile phone. it has been signed for someone in my area but from asking around no one has it. Within 72hours i will get a name and signature as it was signed for. What is the bets way to find out where this person lives so i can track down my parcel as royal mail will only give the signature and initials.

Track them down?! What are you going to do? Ask nicely for it back? :S

Tell the coppers, but they probably won't do anything

I want to find out where they live so i can go and ask for it back. as i live in a 3 story flat but its a line of flats I have asked at 5 different flats close to me but i dont want to go round all of them when I get a name. I know that their used to be a site to search names who were on the electoral role but cant remember it. All I want is the phone back. There s no granite I will find out who it is as they may have used a fake name or tried to forge mine.

  • Makes you wonder what the point of recorded delivery is when things like this happen.

If you ask at the local library, they may be able to do an electrol role check for you, which would give you an address. Or look them up in the phone book.

My postman used to put parcels in my dustbin when I wasn't in. :(

http://www.b4usearch.com/ is really good for tracking people down. I'm amazed at some of the info on there!

You have to click on PEOPLE in the yellow box first, put in the details and away you go!

Surely it's up to the delivery company to give the address of the recipient?

Yes, I realize the original recipient was you, but did he just hand it to someone on the street or did he knock a neighbor's door?

  • I would advise against tracking down the individual yourself and asking for the item back. Do you really think that if you were given the name of the person and you attended at their property, they are going to admit to having kept the phone, never mind giving it back.
You must inform the Police who can then conduct the relevant checks and ascertain where the phone was delivered. The Police can then conduct a search of the relevant property by obtaining the relevant warrant.
By making the first move it is likely that any Police inquiry will be frustrated as the person responsible will realise that the Police are likely to be involved.
Call the Police, obtain the relevant crime number and contact the retailer who can then block the phone and prevent fraudulent misuse.
