It always has that effect on me too, and I don't have sensitive skin at all.

I find the lotion fine, but the body wash can make certain areas a bit sore:o

After using sanctuary body butter couple of years ago I ended up with what can only be described as a "burning rash" on my arm which left the skin peeling (a bit like sun burn)-it was so sore I ended up going to the Dr's.
I don't have sensitive skin and have never had a reaction like this since, but the only thing that I could put it down to was the Sanctuary stuff that I'd been using !!

I've been using this product and found it gives me a sort of burning sensation after I apply it, to certain areas of my body - my thighs for example. I mentioned this to my sister who said she accidentally got some up her nose (!) and felt a burning type sensation.

Then tonight, I put some on my neck and came up in a stinging red rash - I washed it off and it quickly went down. I do have very sensitve skin, but am gutted as I love Sanctuary (and have loads of it hoarded away!) I've not had problems with any other of their products - shower gel, perfume etc - it's just the body lotion in the tall container - has anyone else?

Yes only the other week actually come to think of it but only in one certain place :embarasse Lets just say i must have been over generous rubbing it in on my bottom :) I soon washed it off though.

If it is you will find it is supposed to make your skin warm & tingly, must admit though first time I used it felt like I had covered myself in deep heat

Oh it was warm and tingly alright :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Maybe phone up Boots or Sanctury and ask- it could be its supposed to happen like Miss Poppy has already said. I noticed one of the key ingredients in the product is ginger root and that will make things warm. I'd not be suprized if a warm feeling was what was desired.

If your skin becomes too red or painful or itchy then its got to go back- if your normally find with Sanctury it does sound like you bought a dud and they just added in too much ginger- its important they know because theres a risk others could use it on more sensitive areas or worse: on more sensitive people (eg children). I'd call them anyway just to see if they have any suggestions- they being skincare experts and who knows they could decide it is their fault and offer you a refund.

If i did that id have to take it back in a wheelbarrow. I have a tendancy to amass too many toiletries. In fact i probably could supply all the women on my estate with stuff. Too many bargains and glitches to be had :)

Ebay it? You could also freecycle it if you just want to get rid but as refunds go its handing it back or nothing- you could try asking if a picture of everything you have was enough as unless its sealed at the lid they are unlikely to keep it for anything other then looking at, its not as if they can sell it on unless it is sealedand you desposing of it for them could save them the trouble- just ask first!

Well, I got a quick reply - even if it does bascially say 'shove off' (!) I did not know that Sanctuary was part of Cussons....hmm...they try and promote as this lovely brand from the Covent Garden Spa but of course it's all corporate now isn't it....

Thank you for your email. It is always very useful and highly appreciated to gain customer insights.

Firstly please may I say how sorry I am to hear about the unfortunate reaction you experienced. I would like to reassure you that we carefully choose ingredients for our products to ensure they are of a high quality and deliver real benefits to the skin and body. We always blind test our products on a range of women through independent trials; we also run full safety tests to ensure we create products that customers will love and that are completely safe to use.

The Sanctuary Spa Body Lotion contains ginger which stimulates blood flow in the skin, this is beneficial for the skins’ health and as a normal consequence of this it can lead to redness and a gentle tingling sensation. Unfortunately it sounds as though you have experienced a particular sensitivity to this ingredient.

As everybody’s skin is different there is always a chance that someone will have a reaction to a specific ingredient in any cosmetic product, or that their skin will be particularly stressed and therefore more sensitive because of environmental or hormonal factors. Unfortunately it is impossible to produce a product that can be guaranteed as suitable for everyone all of the time however we do fully appreciate how frustrating it is when someone reacts to a product, and we will always record any report of a reaction for the team to consider.

It is also for that exact reason that we offer many other moisturisers in our range with different ingredients and textures.

It is not our policy at Sanctuary to replace products for consumers, we advise for you to take the product back to the original place of purchase to assist with refund or replacement. If appropriate our retail partner should then contact us in order to resolve any issue that has arisen. If you do not have a receipt it is up to their Customer Service Department to deal with your complaint.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

    Kind Regards,

(name and address available if anyone else wants to follow up...)

I love the Sanctuary stuff I have, I won a ton of it but only used the body lotion for the first time today and OMGGGGGG the burning, its like I have covered the entire trunk of my body with deep heat then jumped into an ice cold swimming pool! And I love deep heat! lol, this stuff HURTS alot!!!! Had to jump back into my bath to wash it off and poured it down me loo lol, I shall still use the perfume, but nothing else, can't risk this pain again, I am still burning! lol Be wary, I know the ginger causes 'tingling' this is more like Hell fires!!!!!
