Unwanted spam 'sales' phone calls
for the last few days i have been recieving calls from 0161 312 6506 climing to be from Claims profesionals.
these calls come at unwelcome times, and they are for something that i have absolutly no interest in.
from what i understand theres some sort of harrasment law, could this be used against Claims profesionals as a warning telling them to stop calling me with imediate effect?

- Register the number with Telephone Preference Service (TPS): http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/number_type.html
- When the company cold calls tell them to **** of and that you are registered with TPS.
- If they call again complain to TPS (http://complaints.tpsonline.org.uk/Consumer/) or to Information Commissioner ( I am receiving unwanted marketing calls on my telephone. What can I do about these? )

You are not alone, but if there was the possibility that you DID have an insurable event happen, you've probably provided the permission your insurer needed to pass your contact details on. Did they address you by name? If so, the TPS cannot help - only if they're on a fishing exercise and dont know who you are.0

You could lead them on a bit to discover their identity. Once you have their company details, you could write to them stating that you do not wish to be called again.
If they address you by name, then hit them with a SAR to see where they got their information from.
That said, there are hordes of sleazy law firms out there making speculative calls to unknown numbers, so this could be a tedious exercise if you do it every time."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
My car was written off a few months ago, by a HGV driver, who admiited liability, and the insurance sorted the rest out.
fortunatly it was a very low speed colision ( i was stationary he wasnt going much more than walking speed) and i suffered no injuries at all, except being a little surprised/shaken up, and annoyed at the loss of my transport.
however that didnt stop the letters and phone calls asking for whiplash compensation, these stopped after a while, and ive only now started to be pestered by this number.
I have registered my mobile with TPs, which i wasnt aware that i could do ( i thought it was only land lines) , thanks to grumbler for suggesting this
and thanks to buzby for suggesting it may be down to the accident that my car suffered from.
If they do contact me again, i wil ask them to stop as im registered with TPS, and i consider this to be extremly anoying, if not harrasment..
im already paying enough for car insurance without another pillock ( ie myslef) going on the ever increasing list of people claiming for whiplash, then moaning when their premiums go up yet again. From the Plain Language Commission:

I wouldn't be surprised that your own insurance co. could have sold the details to these sleezy companies.0 -
If ( and thats a big if) i manage to intercept one of thier calls tommorow, whats the best way of dealing with them regarding anti harasment legislation? From the Plain Language Commission:

? people do not and cannot 'opt-in' to be called by 'Lead' generators....I hope you agree that that that would be just plain daft.....but saying that I do agree with you that some 'employee' may have sold the details on.....but in this case with this company I think it will be a coincidence.Buzby wrote:You are not alone, but if there was the possibility that you DID have an insurable event happen, you've probably provided the permission your insurer needed to pass your contact details on. look at the amount of people they are calling
these people are random cold calling to build marketing lists to sell on to others.http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/01613126506

Just had a call from this number and they were able to tell me about a loan we had years ago. When I told them i didn't have a building Society/Bank/Post Office account anymore, they asked to speak to my husband. Must be dodgy as I have not had anything to do with any sort of financial institutions for about 15 years.
