Small Print FIVE YEAR Tie In - Plus Net Broadband Contract

Hi Can anyone help in july 2005 I took out a 12 month PAYG broadband contract on the understanding that I was getting a free Modem and activation as long as I kept the contract for 12 months. After which I would not incur any costs. About 2 weeks later I changed to the Teleworker contract and I was told there would be no changes to the contract except for a one of charge of £14.99 to change from Home PAYG to Teleworker.

I have recently been informed that I have a deferred activation and modem charge on my account which is in place for FIVE years. So even though I have been with Plus net for 20 months they are asking me to pay this to leave.

Has anyone else experienced similar charges levied by Plus Net?

I am confidant that the FIVE year clause was not present as all the literature I read clearly did not list this nor any communications I subsequently received confirmed this deferred charge.

Can any one assist, the sum being asked back of me is £67, to leave plus net to obtain the MAC code.

Martin or anyone else can you help me as to how I can take this matter further as I feel that the product was miss sold to me.

Has anyone got small print contract going back to june/July 2005 from Plus Net that I can actually check?

many thanks in advance

I joined Plusnet in May 2005 and the deferred activation and modem offer was in the terms and conditions then. You had the choice of paying it up front or deferring it over a five year term, reducing by an amount for each year you stay with them.

However if you go into the Plusnet forum you will see that this fee is about to be dropped sometime in March this year, and anyone who has been with them for over twelve months will not be liable for the deferred activation fee, if I were you I would wait for another month or so until before migrating to another ISP.
  • Just want to add, they can not hold you MAC back because you owe them money. Ofcom has been quite clear about this, it became written in stone on Feb 14th just to make sure.

Ask for your MAC and they must give it within a week, if they shirk out of it report em to Ofcom.

In theory yes but it has still be enforced and until someone is prepared to be a test case some ISP's are still trying to charge a fee.

    See >>here<<

Though in fairness to Plusnet they have said that they will abide by the new ruling.

I am in the process of moving from PlusNet, I must say that they were very quick in providing me with a MAC.
It's a shame they weren't as quick sorting out their service problems !
