Help! Region 1 dvds in the UK?

Hi, I'm not sure it this is the right place to post this, but could someone give me some advice? I was looking to order a couple of dvds but they are only available in the US. Will I be able to play them in the UK? Does anyone have nay ideas? Many thanks to anyone who can help in advance!

You need to have a Muti region dvd player, you can either buy them ready unlocked or get an unlocking code if its not. You also need to have a tv that's NTSC compatible, otherwise the picture will be in black and white.

Most cheap DVD players will just work. Expensive ones may need magic codes to unlock them, or may not play the disks at all.

As for NTSC, most will output PAL60, which almost any TV in the UK will display correctly these days. I've never found one that didn't.

I brought my girlfriend a TV from Argos 3 years ago and that play's NTSC in black and white. Bottom line is its better to be safe than sorry, if it doesn't say or you're not sure, ask.
  • You need to get a region 0 dvd player, there pretty common and even the cheaper ones come in regon 0. If you already have a dvd player i think you might be able to convert it. Check out this link on ebay:

    hope its of help,

Sounds like you need to set your DVD player to output PAL60 rather than NTSC. Most do that by default.

You do not need to spend money to get a hack to make a DVD Player Region Free.

Look http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214212 at this link. If there's a hack it will be here. If not post your make amd model and someone will tell you if there is a hack and how to use it.

    Good luck.
  • i use this site for all my dvd players as i get alot of dvds from the usa as my dad lives there...ive never had any problems with any of the hacks, they have all worked and are very easy, i always check this site first before i buy a new dvd player so i know i can unlock it, most of my dvds are region 1's so need to make sure dvd players are unlockable...

i just bought a new dvd player from argos for my daughter, the cheapest one for 17.75 didnt have a hack anywhere online but the second one for 19.99 did so thats the one i bought...

just search for your dvd make model number and if there is a hack it will tell you then follow the instructions...

I have loads of R1 DVD's I bought a DVD player years ago when they were stupidly expensive and had it hardware modified as codes wern't available at that time it is a r0 player and plays most of the DVDs released all over the world.

As a combat to the R0 players they came up with RCE region codeing enhanced which resulted in you needing a R1 player to play an R1 disk, it was pretty dificult to tell which dvd's were RCE so I stopped buying them after ending up with a few I had to watch them on my PS2 as I could chose the region.

The other problem that has been mentioned is that a TV that doesnt suport NTSC will result in an interlaced black and white picture, most modern TVs will play them but I have a sony TV that won't.

There are huge advantages to buying US DVD's the main one is that the are released before the UK market get them sometimes before the reach the cinema.

http://www.find-dvd.co.uk/r1 is a good place to look for Region 1 DVDs.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
