Asda vs Lidl & Adli?

Hi
Ive never been to a Lidl or Aldi before but on Thursday we are going to drive over and there is one of each in close proximity.

We usually do all our shopping in Asda but ive seen an offer advertised on MSE for Lidl hence making a special trip.

But I was wondering is there anything specifically cheaper in these 2 compared to Asda that I should stick on Thursdays shopping list?

I would rather go with a list so that I dont spend for spending sake and I want to utilise this trip to get the most out of the petrol money.

TIA :)

If you go with a list that's much better. Check mysupermarket for all the high value items for the best prices at the supermarkets listed there and when you walk around if Aldi or Lidl is cheaper then buy the product you need.

Most of the items you will find in Lidl/Aldi are own brand not the main one. Most items in my experience will match the leading brand but its just a case of trying it for personal preference.
Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.

If you're a meat eater than definitely try the ham in either as they are far cheaper than Asda and much cheaper than what you'd get for the same price in Asda. The other half loves the Lidl peppered ham & Aldis Torchon Ham.

Cereals in Aldi are quite cheap, their fruit & fibre & bran flakes are nicer than Kellogs version in my opinion as they keep crunchy rather than sog up (yuk!).

Baked potatoes (4 pack) and a few other items for salads are 39p in aldi at the moment.
If you buy pizzas then Aldi pizzas are really nice, just as good as branded and a fraction of the price. I buy the 99p stonebaked and american deep pan ones. Not tried Lidls versions though.

I like Lidls offers on Rubicon though, yum!

Lidl's pizzas are good too. As is the luxury muesli and chocolate 79% cocoa solids.

most Aldi shoppers will say this - its not just the prices - its the QUALITY! in some cases it may not be cheaper - but its worth buying because it Tastes better or is better value. Dont expect choice hun - In most cases its either buy the brand on offer or dont! except for some reason their pasta sauce - the 30odd pence one is awful! dont buy it!
I have to say that the deli section is without equal - and the cheeses! the frozen prawns are great and so is the frozen fish. and the jams!
The more expensive chocolate is to die for! and I am not a chocoholic!
I suppose it depends on personal taste and what you are used to - but my grandkids wont eat Heinz beans and sausage and beans at home after having the Corale ones at my house.
and you will notice that a lot of the wines and beers are award winning - and they deserve it.
so do the nappies - been using them for years for the grandkids and as soon as the parents realise they are as good as the top brands I have had to pick up packs for them!
Try Aldi - many people have on here now and become dedicated Aldi shoppers - I just wish I had a pound for everytime someone has said they wished they had tried Aldi/Lidl before!

if your lidl has a small bakery buy the bread, the cheese topped rolls are divine.

i also buy my cooked meats and dry cure bacon from there. the jams are nice, and the chocolate sea shells are nicer the guylan ones.

    lots more really

Just remember to take your own bags, a £1 coin for a trolly and they don't accept credit cards.

Couldn't agree more! I wish I started shopping at Aldi's a long time ago.

I have always shopped at Tesco and did my first Aldi food shop last week and am going back this week! I bought the same items I usually buy and saved £33 :). I usually spend £85 a week at Tesco and at Aldi I spent £52 (we are a family of 4).

Their version Crunchy Nut Cornflakes are lovely and taste the same as Kelloggs and cost half the price. DH loves their version of mars/snickers bars, the quality of the fruit and veg is very good and tastes better and doesn't 'go off' as quickly as Tesco's.

I have to say though, they scan the products very quickly and I ended up just throwing them in the trolley as I couldn't keep up :rotfl:.
