Sorry, I don't understand this. Are you talking about insurance or a travel visa? What relevance does the 'few minutes to midnight' have? Did they want you to pay for an extra day on the beginning or an extra day at the end. When you sat they were understanding do you mean they didn't charge you or just that they didn't arrest you? This thread seems to attract indecipherable posts.

Oh dear, sorry to be indecipherable.

Talking about timescales - unlike hotels and the like, if you stay across midnight it is counted as 2 days for visa and insurance purposes. It is, in fact, possible for 2 minutes to be charged as 2 days from 23:59 - 00:01.

OP fell foul of this for insurance, I did for visa purposes.

    Hope this is decipherable.

No still not getting it. Does the OP think their travel insurance should just be for the time they spend in the foreign country, not including the time taken to travel to/from that country?

Rather than starting when you go through passport control in the country you live in on the way out, and ending when you go through on the way back?
Or even starting when you leave your house at the start of the trip and ending when you're back safely?

    It sounds like it.
Even though you've left the country you were staying for your holiday, up until the point you get back to your country of residence and collect your baggage (and have confirmed that it's all there and has not been damaged or stolen, you are still travelling, hence covered by your travel insurance.

If the cover ended the moment you departed your holiday destination, what would you do if your baggage went missing on the return flight, or the aircraft had a problem and you were diverted to an alternate airport?

I think the OP is saying that she made a mistake in calculating the duration and venting that they have to buy another 15 days when they only need one.

Overall, companies make a vast amount of money - charging people for things they don't use - in all sorts of areas, by having this high granularity in their charging.

    Thank you, Azari!

I am also venting that I pay an extra £40, when I shall in my house at 2pm on that day.

Additionally, we keep a decent sum of our saving in the HSBC, at the lousy interest rates, to benefit from their 'free travel insurance'.

I counted out the exact 60 days in the USA.

  • Hi to you all,

To all parties on a long stay in Europe..........INSURANCE & MEDICAL COVER.
Your experience would be very useful to others on holiday, or going on holiday to Europe.

What was/is your experience ........ good or bad.......
    LET’S HERE FROM YOU.............

Such as....Your personal experiences which insurance company was the best or the worst.
What did you have to pay for your cover/duration, AT WHAT AGE......
Age.......Not many cover you if you are over 70, if so the rates are high.
Have you used your cover for medical treatment, what was the outcome.
    AND SO ON..................

NOW.........Did you know you can get an annual cover for up to 90 days maximum stay each trip, covering Europe up to the age of 79, for the whole year for £35.10 all inclusive, with no medical condition, more if there is one.

    I just did...............
From: (Type 3w first, then) .journeyman-services. (last type c o m without the spaces)
Ever heard from them??....If so....let’s hear from your experience........
    AWAIT ALL YOUR REPLIES.

    With regards,
    John.

Would you entire policy have been void had you not been insured for that final day [in the event that you tried to claim on it]? Or would it only have not paid out in the event of a mishap in those 24 hours but covered you quite happily for a mishap in the earlier part of your holiday?

If the latter, you could have just winged the extra day ;):D

Probably would have been void for the whole time.

I admit to my mistake - counting out 60 days in the USA. It's medical insurance uppermost in my mind really.

Staying for as long as possible looking after new grandson as DIL is back at work and delaying the child care!

Think HSBC might be losing two customers.
