Travel insurance dates - back in UK counts

Just rung HSBC Travel insurance to extend our insurance, as we are visiting DS for 60 days - booked the longest we could have - or so we thought!

Apparently, they only consider the date we arrive in the UK - so are charged as if we are away for 75 days! Another £40.

Cam you explain that a little more clearly?

If you are saying that the insurance runs to the date you arrive back in the UK that sounds perfectly reasonable.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.
  • I would have thought it would be the day you are back in UK anyway. What happens if your flight is delayed and you need a hotel? Surely you would expect insurance to kick in? Or if your luggage was lost en route?

    Seems a reasonably logical calculation!
  • Seems reasonable.

It's an easy mistake to make though. The same way as a one-week holiday (say Weds to Weds) is actually 8 days.

I don't get it - is it taking a fortnight to get back to the UK? That is one horrible flight!

pollypenny, lovey, I think most people haven't got a clue what you mean.

Think I've got what the OP meant....

They are wanting a travel policy that covers uk and overseas travel. I may be wrong but the only way I've seen these is by buying an annual policy.

I am so mad - counted out my 60 days. Of course, flights from the USA to Uk arrive a day later.

The fact that we will have left the USA is obviously irrelevant!

Don't want anyone else to make the same mistake - of course, no one else would be so daft!

BTW:it is annual policy, normal with maximum of 31 days, but we needed to extend.

Heh heh - we fell foul of this at the visa desk in Asia recently - we stayed for 30 nights, but despite landing at a few minutes to midnight, we had to pay for the full day - so 31 days. Except we had bought 30-day visas! Luckily they were busy and understanding... :-|

Sorry, I don't understand this. Are you talking about insurance or a travel visa? What relevance does the 'few minutes to midnight' have? Did they want you to pay for an extra day on the beginning or an extra day at the end. When you sat they were understanding do you mean they didn't charge you or just that they didn't arrest you? This thread seems to attract indecipherable posts.
