Mrs Jones by B. A. Morton (Taylor Street Publishing) 4.5.gif (106 Reviews)

A British girl with a secret.
A NewYork cop with a past.
And a mob that wants revenge

In the slickest, sneakiest twistiest-turniest hard-boiled crime noir novel to come out in a long time, ruggedly pragmatic but honest cop Detective Tommy Connell picks up an English girl, Mrs Jones, who claims to be the witness to a murder, and promptly falls in love with her.

Well, Mrs Jones, whoever she is, must be very attractive because an awful lot of people seem to want to get their hands on her if they can prise her from Connell's determined grasp, including some prominent representatives of organised crime and the Feds.

Detective Connell definitely has his work cut out here if he wants to end up with the body of Mrs Jones, dead or alive, that's for sure.

All-in-all it's probably safe to say he hasn't a clue what is going on. It is probably equally safe to guess that Mrs Jones does.

Not that 'safe' is quite the right word to use here or, there again, maybe it is.

Just finished 'Unaccustomed Earth', a wonderful collection of short stories by Jhumpa Lahiri. :)

Beginning in America, and spilling back over memories and generations to India, Unaccustomed Earth explores the heart of family life and the immigrant experience. Eight luminous stories - longer and richer than any Jhumpa Lahiri has yet written - take us from America to Europe, India and Thailand as they follow new lives forged in the wake of loss.

    £1.09 at the moment- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Unaccustomed-Earth-ebook/dp/B002VQ7QBM/ref=dp_return_1?ie=UTF8&n=341677031&s=digital-text
  • Hi all,

Just to let you know you can get a free kindle book on QlikView which has examples on managing your spending using QlikView.

The free download lasts until 25/8.

You can get the free download by searching for "Practical QlikView" on the amazon website.

You don't need a kindle to read the book as you can download an application from amazon to read it on your PC.

Hopes this free download helps someone.

    Thanks

    Mark

Get Up to 30 Selected Kindle Books for £1 Each with Your Free Voucher from Amazon Local!

I've just registered for this on the Amazon website. I should then get an email that tells me the credit has been applied to my Amazon account. Once I get that, I can then buy up to 30 Kindle books (from a selection) for £1 each.

At this stage, I haven't looked in too much detail at the books available, but at first glance, there's at least a couple I'd be interested in at that price.

Just read this brilliant book from a brand new author, first novella on offer at only 81p for a limited time - worth a read and won't take long, true story and well writen

A short story of a normal family rocked by the crisis of child abuse, as told from the point of view of a child in the heart of the situation. Read the story of the un-named child and her younger sister Lucy as they experience the worst kind of betrayal by members of their own family and how their lives were effected and changed thereafter.

About 10 mins ago I checked to see if my email had come through but it hadn't. I then went back onto the Amazon site and realised that I should have 'bought' a free voucher in order to get the credit necessary. I hadn't done it. So I did it then, and the purchase went through.

I now see that it says 'Purchase Limit Reached'.

    Sorry!
