Actually, they produce less heat than normal bulbs as they run at 35W. Have been using HIDs in projector headlamps for a few years now and its been perfect. I wouldn't fit them to a reflector headlamp unless you fit H7R bulbs which are shielded to reduce glare. :)

AIUI lack of self level and washers will not be an MOT fail

    if fitted they should work.

    Thanks for all your input.
May just leave the hid's and get some decent standard bulbs.
Its for a citroen c8. Lenses etc in good clean condition.
I'll look around and see what bulbs are available.
  • depending on your vehicle of choice.. agreed it is far more dificult to be legal with the regulations these days especially in a car, and most of the cheap fleabay stuff is just that cheap wont be legal and wont last....... however
I ride a big powerful motorcycle which is known for its crap light.
I have fitted HID to both dip and main beam, I can now see at legal speeds. I have no problems with my MOT. Yes cars flash me and I would rather have that than them not seeing me and taking me out as happened last year , 40 mph on a 60, jag pulled out and sat at right angles across my lane looking to his left for a gap and did not see me on his right.
I have cars pull behind me and start flashing so what I do now is give them a flash of main before I overtake to show I am on dip
Cars dont seem to realise my light is set correctly but my light is higher than the rear of your car so you will be dazzled reguardless of what light is fitted... try using that lever on your mirror!!!

As somebody pointed out in response to a similar thread a while ago, HID lamps are technically illegal in the UK... even when fitted as original equipment.

The problem with HIDs on vehicles with stiff suspension is that the light will shift from full white dazzle to red dazzle, blue dazzle and then to almost black several times a second as the vehicle bounces around. It's bad enough having a "sporty" Audi A4 behind you with OEM HIDs. Aftermarket motorbike HIDs are the spawn of satan.

And only one of the 3 mirrors being used to dazzle the driver has a little lever to make it go away, a lot of drivers will just cover the offside wing mirror with their hand in order to get back some ability to see the road ahead.

Not sure how this makes things safer.

I've got to agree with this. I sometimes end up tilting the door mirrors down... and then forgetting to tilt them back up again.

Great bulbs, but they have a reputation for poor lifespan and living up to their name in a more literal sense.

They released a Nightbreaker Plus that promises "1.5 times longer life" to which the comment that stuck in my mind on this forum was "Oh? You mean they now last for 9 months?"
