Virgin Media install date changing without notice?

Hi.
I am moving across the country and before I move I need internet access set up, I have to be at my new place for the broadband install to take place so I had planned for Thursday (it's a 400 mile trip) and I've just called Virgin Media and been told "Your order is scheduled for the 20th" which is not what I was told when I originally ordered over the phone, I was told March 15th between 1 and 6 PM (I wrote it down).
I have been told an advisor is going to call me back, but I'm curious if this is normal or did the person I ordered from lie? It seems strange to me that my order would be scheduled for the 15th and then mysteriously be scheduled for the 20th the next time I call.
So yeah: is it normal for Virgin media to change the install date?

Yes,it can happen.
VM only have a fraction of the two man install crews that they did when I worked for them so demand for those crews is higher. It could be that when you booked the install date it was showing as a open slot but someone else booked the same slot at the same time & by the time the order went thru the system, the slot was closed so the initial date was rejected.it could also be the are construction issues that require extra work, contrary to popular belief, you can't just dig up the road or footpath unless it's an emergency, you have to apply in advance.
Could also be the are no free timeslots as a previous job had rescheduled & was booked into the timeslot you got,but wasn't showing on the system, could also be the are no free crews on that day.
The reasons it has been rescheduled are numerous,I've done installs that have taken less than an hour & others that have taken over a day to do.0 -
Ah okay, thanks. I guess I better reschedule my trip there then.
As a side note, this is quite annoying because the apartment I'm renting was listed as "Pre-wired for virgin media" but when I phoned up I was told "it's never had virgin broadband before so you must have an engineer visit" which I assume will probably turn out to be a waste of time. The building is less than a year old and had cable wired for every apartment.
oh well, only a 5 day delay.0 -

What that means is the person who built the apartment block has already installed the cable & phone connections through out the build but the apartment itself has not been connected to the VM network, hence the engineer being needed.Quite often only the cables will be ran thru the apartment but the connections where they all meet (usually in a hall cupboard) won't be joined.
He will connect the CATV feed to the apartment to the network, jumper the phone lines in the street cabinet or internal cabinet & make everything live through to the tv/phone & broadband points in the apartment.0
