    Yes, that is exactly how it works, except I initiated the process by phoning Orange who then put me through to Apple. Your first contact should be with the supplier, who may then direct you to Apple as their agent for carrying out a replacement under Section 11N of the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. If you contact the warranty provider directly without going through the supplier, you may lose your rights if a subsequent fault occurs after the warranty period has expired.
