Ive worked for sainburys in the past and they do support their staff.
Its nice to hear about a company who cares about their staff......to the OP take this as a positive and enjoy your job!!!0 -
When is it our next payday for Sainsburys staff?0

Glosboy, it is next Friday so 20th April
.
I worked at Mr T's for 2.5 years and I got no reward from there at all for all the hard work I put in. When I moved to Sainsbury's, I have received 2 amounts on my lovecard and the managers are a lot more appreciativex

What a difference an environment makes. GF gets all the stress at work, unachievable targets and goading by managers, and on occasions ended up crying. Needless to say the managers had an entirely different view to that of the OP, and were not in the least caring. Funny how managers think behaving a certain way is acceptable, because of the pressure applied to them from above. She has since lost her job. IMO it was unfair dismissal, but GF doesn't want to kick up a fuss or engage with them.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0

How much does a department manager earn at Sainsburys?0

Nice to hear in this day and age that there are still bosses out there who actually support their staff.
Sounds like this customer is heading for a store ban and good!
I did some work for a large supermarket a few years ago on a temp basis and same thing - got shouted at by a few customers. As soon as I pointed them out to security they were immediately ejected from the store0 -
Hi all had to say something about this post, Ive worked in retail for the last 25years, worked for Asda ,Tesco,Shoprite, Sainsburys and sainsburys are the best to work for they do care about their staff they are flexible and they are a family, like the op i work on the counters, meat n fish, deli and ftg, obviously not all at the same time,Ive been with Sainsburys for 7years now, ive had customers be extremely abusive to me and my colleages and the managers always "stick up" for us. ITS NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY!! If your happy in what you do then that is brilliant.0

I work for Sainsburys and to be quite fair the story of the OP is not just a manager "doing his job", that's a manager saying I won't stand for that, and being a person. I am a Team Leader (in convenience) and as such I play manager 5 shifts a week and the store manager in questions response is 100% what I would do!0

I don't understand why people are saying the Manager is 'just doing his job.' I think it's lovely. I had a Manager in a countrywide chain tell me to "F**k off" and "For f**k's sakes" because I had a close bereavement and came into work upset. Is that doing their job?
Lovely to hear you have support at work, OP.0 -
I used to work on a counter for Sainsburys, on teh meat and fish counter and the OP is right some of the customers you used to get are a right PITA and treat you like scum. On the other hand I had plenty of regulars who made the day go by so much better.
But the worst customer are the ones (usually #middle aged blokes) who have nothing better to do than stand chatting about anything they can think of while you are trying to serve customers who are actually buying. they are usually in every day at roughly the same time.
I did find that some managers were like the one the OP has but some were complete nob ends who couldn't care less.Bedroom Tax / Spare room subsidy / Housing Benefit Reduction - It's the same thing, get over it.0
