That's exactly what I'm going to do in the morning. I ordered mine online a week ago and the Sky channels were there then. It's not due to be fitted till Thursday so I can quite legitimately claim that they are not providing me with what I ordered. In any case, the Sky £26 per month seems a sensible alternative but I don't know what their BB is like.

Remember the Sky £26 package does not include line rental - so that's an additional £11 per month (or £10.75 if you're happy with paperless billing) you'll be paying to BT.

Yes, thanks for that, i did spor it (in very small print) so I guess it's time to ask Virgin what they propose to do about lowering my cost or giving me extra services tomorrow. Let me know how you get on.

Yes, that is disappointing, but I suppose I can always watch Sky Sports on my other TV which has a Freeview Box, and I can always upgrade to Sky Sports.
Sky are proposing to withdraw their free channels (Sky 3, Sky News, Sky Sports News) from Freeview to make way for new pay channels. They're planning to broadcast these in a non-standard format, so you'll need a new box to subscribe to them, even if you have one that can do Top-Up TV. The trouble is that's exactly what Sky want you to do!

"When Mr Burch first refused to pay the asking price, Sky retaliated by showing adverts urging cable TV customers to contact Virgin Media's customer service helpline and demand the cable TV operator show Sky One." (from http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6389015.stm ).

The dispute between the two companies arises from the fact that Sky want to charge Virgin extra for carrying the basic Sky channels and Virgin don't want to pay it.
  • Hmm... it will be a shame to lose Sky but then I've only had cable since November last year and if I managed to live for the preceding 27 years without Sky I'm sure I'll manage!

I have been looking at the Virgin Media site, though, and I think I'm gonna give them a ring about my package. I'm paying £20 a month for broadband and TV but I don't use the broadband (I had to take it to get the TV because I was already on a contract with BT for my phone and I can't get TV anywhere other than cable - it's long, grade II listed story). It looks like they do separate packages, and the "L" TV is better than the one I've got (which is somewhere between M & L - I get some of the channels there, but hardly any of the UKTVs and none of the +1's). Lines down now and I don't trust t'internet with things like this - I want to talk to someone to see exactly what I'll be getting first!
