That's a point, does it matter that I've been a Santander customer before? I had my first ISA with them about 3 years ago.

It shouldn't matter. This is not a "Loyalty" product, nor is it "new customers only"

Hi, I have an additional question to add to this. I also have this account and my opening transfer went in on 11th Apr 2011. Is this the date the account must be open until?

My Reward year ran from the date the account was opened, even though it was not funded for a further 22 days. I got a letter telling me the date it ended, and the amount of additional interest that would be paid.
  • Thanks all for your help.

Just so I can get my mind around this finally, if I open the Santander account and put a transfer request in, since I have old years as well as my current year I will transfer everything over but £1.

Then once I get the interest in Halifax after 6 April I will put in another transfer request into Santander like before, except this time saying transfer the remaining balance and close the account.

    Should this be okay?

This is exactly what I'm doing (I hope!)

I'm not sure if Santander will accept a second transfer request. If they don't you may need to leave the accrued interest with Halifax, or transfer elsewhere.

I've just received a letter from Halifax confirming that I've earned an extra fixed rate of 0.2%, with the exact computed amount (just the 0.2%) also provided in the letter. The letter states that this will be credited with the standard interest on my next interest payment date (not sure what this date is).

The letter was dated 7 March, despite my reward period only coming to an end on 17 March. I think I'll mail my ISA transfer form to Santander tomorrow, as I don't think I'll miss out on my 0.2% bonus given that I now have in writing that I've earned it!
  • How long was it before others received opening details? I applied on the weekend to Santander and heard nothing yet.

I did mine in branch so got opening details immediately, zero balance of course awaiting receipt of transferred in funds. 6 days later I received an undated letter saying funds had been requested and provider had 5 days to release them, after which time a "chaser" letter would be sent. 22nd March still awaiting funds (although source account was closed 16th March), eagerly awaiting my next update in the hope that this time the tot of whisky will come to me rather than go to the bank (chaser - geddit?)
If you can't think of anything nice to write, say nothing. Rudeness isn't clever.
  • To give an update, things moved pretty fast. Last Friday I went into a branch with my transfer form, I logged onto Halifax today and noticed they've moved everything but the £1 I asked them to leave in (so I get the .2% interest on its anniversary), they did this on Wednesday. I haven't checked my Santander account yet but should imagine it will either be showing today or (more likely) earlier next week.

Things seem to move fast these days, I remember waiting several weeks in the past for a transfer.
