Thanks sscott. What's your general credit profile like, if I may ask ?

I'm hoping it's not just a marketing ploy by Nationwide. I understand that people with bad credit etc will be declined, but what kind of profile are they basically looking for ?

My credit files are flawless with no missed payments at all.

At the time of application my available credit was about 25% of my salary and amount of credit used 1%.

Nationwide are a prime lender and people with bad credit will be declined.

You could try applying online for a credit card - Nationwide offer a quote (soft search) and 'offer' limit and rate, this could give you an indication if you are likely to be accepted or not.

    Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. It seems I can apply for a Flex A/c without automatic switching. Happy to wait for the credit card so long as they keep their interest-free offer going.
However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Just gifts
