Nationwide flexa/c

I'm attracted by this because of its linked Select Visa.

But I don't want to close my FD A/c. So can I open the NationWide A/c without transferring all my DDs/SOs to it? (These include payments into the FD 8% Regular Saver and I don't want to jeopardise that.)

Btw, I assume a regular transfer from FD to the new NW A/c would be enough to meet their £1K/month payment requirement.
However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Just gifts

Their website seems to suggest you need to use their switching service for all DDs/SOs (as well as meeting other criteria) in order to be eligible for the Select credit card as a new customer.

Also, the monthly funding requirement appears to be £750, not £1K.

You can do it without switching but it'll take time - you'll need to open a Flex account, put in £750/month, and then once you have paid that in for at least 3 months running you can apply for the credit card (which you may or may not be accepted for).

Once you have the card you have to continue paying in £750/month to get any cash back.

    The Flexaccount is still free.

The £750 per month minimum payment just makes you eligible for the Select credit card.

So if you open a nationwide flex account, are you guaranteed a credit card ? Or am I missing something here ?

You aren't guaranteed a credit card.

No bank will guarantee a credit card just because you have a current account with them.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

    No, basically.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

When i opened my Flex Account in branch I was offered account with £750 overdraft and a credit card with £4000 credit limit.

Checked with Experian and only one search for Flex Account is showing.

Thanks sscott. What's your general credit profile like, if I may ask ?

I'm hoping it's not just a marketing ploy by Nationwide. I understand that people with bad credit etc will be declined, but what kind of profile are they basically looking for ?
