woodburner

Hi
I want to buy a woodburner and the model I have set y heart on only has a top flue exit. If it turns out that my chimney/hearth isnt big enough to accomodate this and really needs a rear exit, are there adapters that can be used?
I have not yet opened up the chimney breast but looking at the depth of the alcove its about 14 inches. Im thinking of those 45 degree elbow type stove pipes. The stove is a HETAS approved one called The Cube
I do have someone who is going to do this for me but I am doing it in stages (finances etc) and even as a fairly practical female I am worried I am going to make an expensive mistake somewhere!
My criteria for buying a stove is that it must be of steel construction and less than £350 - some target eh!
Posted this on wrong forum initially I think have moved it on advice.

You do realise that a stove installation requires building regs approval ? or it needs fitting by a Hetas registered fitter.

Most flues do exit from the top, if its going into the fireplace once you have opened it up then a top exit will be fine provided theres enough room.

When you get your fire place opened up, get it swept by a chimney sweep and get an inspection done with a pressurised smoke test, if you have smoke leaking from the chimney you will also need it lining, and if your budget is only £350 then thats not even going to buy the liner !
I dont want to burst your bubble but stove installation isnt cheap and HAS to follow the rules and regs despite what diyers say on here, a slapdash install could prove fatal from carbon monoxide poisoning and or cause a fire.

Honestly speaking for £350 I would put your money to better use.

    Hi mucky
£350 is just for the stove (with its proper little metal registration tag- NOT cheap Chinese)- I know about HETAS and lining the flue - Im doing it in stages. I was just wondering about the possibility of ther NOT being sufficient space between the back of the stove and the wall therefore if an adapter would solve that particular problem.
Chimney is already swept -buider booked to open up fireplace and installers (all HETAS qualified) quotes being sought.

I would have thought there would be enough room for the top flue, I wouldnt go down the route of putting any bends in the flue, generally anymore than 2 x 45 degree angles or 1 x 90 degree angle and you will start to get draw problems.

Glad to hear you are going to get it fitter correctly :T if you dont go down the liner route you must make sure there is adequate access into the chimney for sweeping via the register plate though - not through the stove.
