Talk talk upgrade - help...

Hi there,
I had an 18 month basic talk talk broadband package with evening and weekend phone calls that I was quite satisfied with and had only occasional issues with connectivity but overall I was a happy customer.
I don't know if this is a coincidence but without me even realising my 18-month contract had expired and then my connectivity became a real problem, basically I could not connect or the signal would last for 5 minutes and then I couldn't connect. The problem appeared to be on the router as the adsl and the internet lights weren't stable when I phoned talk talk I was looking for a new router but they kept trying to configure things from a call centre in India which was very frustrating and time consuming.
They kept suggesting I take out a new contract and it appeared fibre-optic broadband was now within my price range so I went for that option. On Friday a BT engineer came to install my fibre optic broadband. However he couldn't find the main 'master switch' I had 4 phone ports (?) - where you plug in you phone extension - and presumed it was one of them. However he said this was not the case and we searched the whole flat, including up in the attic but could not find it.
Eventually, as it was explained this was the only opportunity I had I decided to let him run a new cable from where the wire came in (in the bathroom!?) and drill through two walls and install a new master socket and set up the fibre optice modem and router.
The engineer informed me he had been in the army until recently and had been thinking of leaving his new job in BT as he had ballsed up a couple of jobs, been called a liar by his boss and seemed to lack confidence in what he was doing. I digress, anyway he has basically drilled two massive holes to run a cable through
and the whole set-up of phone port, modem, router and phone is all space consuming in my very small flat and looks crap where it is (also the 4 old ports are now redundant). At least the broadband is working.
Apologies for the long-winded email just wanted to tell the tale, as was unaware of what's involved getting broadband and to see if anyone can advise whether I should complain and if so who to about the whole affair and rather shoddy job
Regards,
Mike.

A) You DID agree to him running the new cable. So why do you now want to complain about it? You can tell the engineer to re-route the wire where and how you see fit.
You CAN still complain about the job if you think it is not upto standard. Ring your provider who will then take your complaint and lodge it with BT.
They will explain how you will receive a followup.Who owns the flat? Is it rented? In a flat, usually the master socket is with the landlord. Or somewhere downstairs or outside. The rest are extensions running through to each flat. This means only one wire is needed from the outside and the rest can be re-wired internally.
C) You have made changes to your flat, which if rented, poses more problems for you.0 -
Would have been much cheaper just to buy yourself a new router for about a tenner on eBay...if that was the issue.
Your contract hadn't expired, it had just reached the end of it's minimum term. Had you done nothing it would have continued on the same terms, as a 30 day rolling contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
