CRB Checks?

Options
I was falsely accused of domestic violence in 2008 by a friend of my wife. After spending the night in a police cell and subjected to a full enquiery by the police for a total 24 hours. Although my wife did not press charges and denied the events within 2 hours of my arrest....
As we have a severely disabled child, we were visited by social services on the advice by the police and county council. Within weeks, social services realised the accusations had no substance.
Now, I am being turned down for job after job due to my CRB check. Albeit, I still hold the position of being the main carer for my son.
What do I have to do?

If no criminal charges were brought against you then a CRB check shouldnt show up anything bad. Is there anything else on your file from earlier in your life?

Did you declare the police investigation on your CRB form? Was in an enhanced CRB?

If you weren't cautioned it shouldn't show up. You should request a copy of your CRB form.

Can you get your own CRB check, I was wondering as I see that many jobs requiring it, I thought maybe if I got my own that would be useful

    thanks

If a CRB check is done then you should also get a copy. What does it say?

That isn't necessarily the case for an enhanced CRB, which includes any relevant police intelligence, not just cautions or convictions. JasperMac, can you explain why you are being turned down - what reason are you being given? Are you certain that it is connected to this incident?

If you go to the CRB website you will find that it is not possible for an individual to have a CRB check carried out on themselves. It has to be initiated by an employer.

However you should receive a copy of the form sent to the employer. Mine always came back "empty" as it were and I was able to work but I understand that in some cases the notes which appear on the employer copy are not seen by the subject - I think if there were suspicions which were not followed through to court.

If you can prove that the false allegations are now putting you at a disadvantage you can sue your wife's friend for damages.

Mistakes can be and are made on CRB checks, i received one back for a potential employee and it had an incident involving a child on the crb, however this incident had taken place 9 years ago and the employee was only 18 when she applied for the job. I called her and asked her to speak to me about this, it turned out that she had been the victim and not the perpetrator, it had been logged incorrectly at the time, I helped her put in a complaint and this was quickly sorted and an apology given. So you should check with them.
