Plastering Quote

Hi,

I am not sure whether anyone will be able to help but have just been quoted £280 by a plasterer to board/skim a kitchen ceiling. I guess the surface area is around 7 square metres, maybe less?

Is this reasonable (estimated to be a day's work, more likely less?)

Many thanks!

if you live in the oxford area then prob about right.
a days labour (plasterer) and materials.

i know a chap (NW) who paid 650 for a complete large lounge (inc the ceiling) and a small wall in the utility room.
    Get some gorm.
  • Erm, I'm trying to think here what we paid, we have a kitchen diner so its quite big, we had part of it re plasterboarded cos of a leak. I think we paid about £300. I'm sure it wasnt much more than that. They also cut holes in for our spotlights.

If you think its expensive maybe get another quote.

    Hello oxfordblue

I'll move your thread to the 'Is This Fair?' board.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I am going to retrain to become a plasterer if that is the going rate!
  • One thing I have learned is never take the first quote. We just had our kitchen done and had quotes from £450 to £1000. I would go to the The Money Savers Arms and try and get hold of nelly he's the resident expert on plastering
Nothing to see here, move along.

As it happens I look in here now and again :)

There is a plasterers forum I go on I can ask if anyone can beat the quote if you like?

Any job that goes past a morning needs to be charged for a full day, you might get a slightly cheaper price I dont know Oxford.

    Anyway do this.

Get two more quotes and say to them -

"right I am not going to haggle on the price, so I want you to tell me your lowest price right now, and bear in mind I will pay you cash and I will pay you straight away as soon as you have finished a good job"
  • Nelly get back to the site lol,as for the quote 7m2 £280 ,you might get it a bit cheaper but not by alot. As nelly said get a few quotes in and see how they pan out.

Bear in mind though it is not nice to offer to pay someone cash and expect them to do it cheaper because of that - it puts people on the spot and if they are honest and putting everything through their books (which they should be!) then paying cash would not make any difference to the price.
