    Thanks again...

query, might I ask how much you would spend annually on the wood?

I assume it's a wood log boiler? Are you required to use only seasoned dry wood?

    Thanks

We don't spend anything as I cut the wood from our land myself, but here it goes for between 150 and 200 Euros per cord.

It is definitely a good idea to use dry wood, yes.

Northern Alliance, they have a number of different covers available. What size system are you looking to install? Because It may be covered by your house/farm insurance anyway.

Having installed a Wood Pellet boiler, so far its been pretty good, its a Woodviking 20KW boiler, which came from Finland, the pellet burner from Sweden. So far the boiler has eaten 6000kg wood pellets £1300 over 13months.

Our house is an old farm cottage which has 4 double bedrooms slate roof and built around 1900, poorly insulated.

I researched many brands of Pellet boilers and settled on the woodviking as it very simple to clean operate, also it can be fired by more than one fuel source, wood pellets, oil, logs, electric and solar thermal. I have not used other fuel types but the boiler ensures I'm not dependant on one.

We have a 700kg hopper which last 3 weeks during the cold months, it would be cheaper to purchase pellets loose rather than 10kg bags, but there are many issues with storage.

Has anyone experience of a self build pellet hopper?

    Regards

it was our local MCS engineer, hoping that the RHI will offset the costs.

    Have you looked at these?

Unfortunately I think that if your boiler is capable of using other fuels it will not be accptable for RHI. Try enquiring from the Ofgem RHI helpline.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Forgive be for bumping this but i wondered if anyone had any figures for the cost of a baxi biomass ( pellet only) boiler. We had an eye watering quote as part of a multisourced renewables system and i cannot see prices on the baxi website.
