Winning the lottery and DLA

Some councils do require it.
Rubbish!!!
You also need it to claim free car tax.
errr yes but surely you can buy cars now that don't need any tax??
Some councils will only offer social services help with a DLA claim.
So you are saying that you can only access SS help if you receive DLA? I hav eno idea which council you are talking about, but SS involvement is all about need not that you have a DWP benefit!
Unfortunately there is not a one size fits all service.
IMO there should be an effective way of 'registering' as disabled that does not involve having to make a DLA claim. At least then people who do not wish to claim would have the necessary means to claim the 'access' benefits DLA gives access to.
I have been fighting people for years for calling me disabled!! I'm not disabled - I will never accept that 'label'!!
The DWP categorise me as 'disabled' the council do, HMRC does and to be honest it winds me up!
Yet here you are suggesting that people with disabilities SHOULD be labelled as 'disabled'!
Why? Do you get some kick out of being tagged in that way?
I have had more than one argument in the street and in a store with some idiot making comments about my condition. ' Oh give that chair up for that disabled man' was one I hit the roof with, another was being directed through doors that said 'Disabled Only' Do I not have a choice which doors to go through?
I for one would object strongly if it was suggested that my name would go on a 'list of disabled people'.0 -
when did things get so distorted that any kind of suffering gets equated to a financial figure, how can money make a medical condition better?
It'll kill me to say this, but I agree with you
A disability doesn't get better with money. Thinking about my own situation I wouldn't be able to visit things like gardens without my DLA letter. At Tatton Park RHS show last year I was permitted to park closer to the entrance because I had a DLA letter - I don't have a Blue Badge, can't be bothered with the hassle. It saved me walking miles before I'd even reached the show.0
